I used to play table tennis for about 7 years when I was younger and payed in division 3 for my club and played for my 2nd University team. It's such a satisfying and extremely energetic sport but most people think you just casually stand at the table "pit patting" a ball over.
I don't understand why table tennis doesn't get much TV coverage. I know it's not a massive sport in this country but I honestly think it has a lot more potential. People always seem amazing by the rallys and shots that the professionals pull off.

I must confess that I used to think TT was a game for the pit-patting losers (I do apologise), when I was young and played lawn tennis and badminton myself. I'm very sorry about that, though, as it wasn't too long when I saw some good, live matches and developed respect for TT and its players. I used to think the same about the Cricket, and felt that each time the Cricket players were waiting for the cricket ball with swinging their bat to n' fro while digging a hole on the ground with it, or buffing the cork ball on their white trousers before literally bowling it, they were having a right giraffe!
To my memory, players from China were really good at the TT, then. They were exceptional at Badminton as well.

lol the Swedish bloke must have been thinking FFS will you just 'ave it. Unbelievable returning skill from the French guy.
I used to love playing table tennis at school, we had a table in our common room and just played 'round the table' every break time with about 20 of us all crammed round it.

Let's get controversial amongst all this hero worship.Just to state I only ever played Table Tennis at youth club level.
I believe there is a lot of show boating going on here. With the powerful smashes when the opponent is a long way from the table why dosn't he just take the pace off the ball & dink it over the net?
Can anyone enlighten me?

I used to play for a couple of teams way back when, late 70's early 80's when it was actually quite popular in the UK as we had a few half decent world class players, forget the names but one was a black guy and black role models were a bit thin on the ground at the time so Table Tennis (NOT PING ******* PONG) was popular amongst the black community.
My mates and I would play first to 5 kingy for hours using a dinner table and a towel for the net round at my house consequently we ruled down at the local youth club, YMCA and Afro caribbean centre.
Sadly not played for years because I can't find anyone that can play well enough to make it worth bothering, most people think table tennis is ping pong unfortunately and are happy to patercake the ball backwards and forwards thinking they're playing table tennis.
