If the Tories get elected they will try and work out how to drill from the north of England to get to it so as not to spoil the SE

That's my vote decided then, why should the views on my commute be spoiled when most of the North is already an industrial wasteland.

Oil has been produced onshore in the South of England for decades. There are currently around a dozen oil production sites across the Weald, a region spanning Kent, Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire

Yup, worked in this place for a bit about ten years ago. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wytch_Farm
