Default Looking for both MR16 and MR11 LED bulbs.

And I'm finding them at anything from £10 for five to £10 each.

They also seem a bit of a scam as they seem to need a new transformer which is a minimum of £8.25 and as much as £15 if you have more than one bulb.

Since I'm replacing 20W halogen bulbs, I'm going to have to give the new bulb a LOT of use to save that sort of dosh.

Are low voltage LED bulbs the scam they seem to be? Or is it just that the technology is still too young?

And what's a decent make, if I do decide to go LED?

I got most of my led from Ledhut I think the makes were lumilife and Philips and the lumilife were cheaper and seem to be better than the Philips ones!

I replaced a lot of my mr16 halogen 50 watt lamps for gu10 led lamps from screwfix. Think they were about £7 a lamp, don't require any transformer either, the only thing I also had to get was gu10 lamp holders, cheap off amazon. Led lighting is far better than halogen. You would probably have a better selection with a gu10 over an mr16

Don't buy the cheap ones off eBay! They are garbage. you should be looking at £8-10 a bulb (lamp as they call them).

MR11 LED's have a habit of flickering if you don't change the transformers. Had no such problems with GU10s.

It's only one bulb at the mo, in a shower fan.
Difference in cost has led me to stay with 20W halogen......you can buy a LOT of electricity for the cost of the LED bulb plus transformer.

LED Hut were about £5.70 ish per bulb I think.
Bought 20 for bathroom and kitchen.
1000 watts down to 80watts....
Got to make sense.!!!

THAT does, but for one bulb?

And what did you spend on transformers, because that's the killer for LED low voltage.

I've just replaced all the lighting in aour kitchen with JCC LED6 downlights (new kitchen so the fittings were being replaced anyway).

All in one fitting and bulb....fits in the same holes as a normal ceiling downlighter. Nice light output...equal to a GU10 halogen, and a wide even beam pattern. Time will tell with how long they last though...

Which at £30 each is bit steep, but thats for everything; the whole fitting - no need for a transformer, no need for replacment bulbs, it firerated so no need for firehoods or any crap like that. And they have a 10yr warranty....the latter being the selling point...no more bulbs to replace. And no more worrying about if the unwarrantied £10 LED retrofits will last as long as they claim.
