Default new diesel charge

They are considering charging drivers of diesel cars £10 extra per day ontop of the congestion charge to enter London.
You just know once it starts there it will filter off to other cities.

Good news, diesels are horrible things and people should be charged more for being dumb enough to own one

Manchester tried a few years ago - the vote was about 92% no IIRC. Whats funny is the council were fully expecting it to go their way...

Since the no vote they have slowly screwed every major road - next on their agenda is the A580 from 3 lanes to 2 for a "guided bus" that no one will use and they are just starting FOUR years of works on the M60.

They also said if the vote went no they would not improve the tram network... sicnce the No vote they have put in about 3 extra lines. Lying SOBs.

So I don't know how badly diesel cars pollute vs. petrol but with all this emission control nastiness they now have to have fitted i.e. DPF, EGR etc. I wouldn't have thought there is much in it?

That said I've never driven in central London and I'm unlikely to do so and therefore don't give a ****

I heard on the radio today that boris johnson is looking to increase the price of the road tax on diesels too.

our wonderful government just love fooking the motorists in the **** every which way they can, while they drive round in the fully funded company cars etc. Complete w4nker5.

Not strictly accurate, but close

Three out of the ten Manchester councils opposed the charge from the outset, and the vote was 82% No.

Funnily enough, the chairman of the GMPTE, who was at the forefront of the Yes campaign lost his seat in the next local election. To a candidate from the No brigade

That's the price of 2nd hand soot chuckers going through the floor then.

Good time to buy one if you live outside London.

Either way it was enough of a majority to persuade them to can it

I seem to recall it was a good turn out too, definitely over 50%

Sounds similar to Birmingham, where despite nearly two thirds of respondants being AGAINST a city-wide 20mph speed limit, they went ahead anyway (and want to expand it further already) - see http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news...es-set-6800530.

It is a good job that councillors and their mates are not paid for out of our compulsary council tax to do what we ask them (as public servants) to do - er, wait a minute?

*****!!

reading the report it seems to say that diesels passing Euro 6 emissions tests will not have the extra charge......... wonder which ones do that then?
