In the press today and on the news.
Unmarked police car get's caught speeding by a Gatso camera(48 in a 30).No one at the station where the car is based would admit to being the one who was driving the vehicle.
Outcomeeputy chief inspector had to go to court to take the rap and take a fine for the Hants police.
The driver is still unknown and we assume still has a clean license.
What would happen if we tried this?
The phrase one rule for one and one rule for another spring's to mind.
Amazed
Paul.

Red face

The fine was £500 if I am correct?? Hardly a 'let-off'!!

Pete

I am more concerned that we have a spinless little weasel in the Hants Police Force without the ***** to admit it was them!!

I'm more concerned that the people who uphold the law in Hampshire don't have:

A) a record of their duty rosters

and

B) a log where a driver signs to confirm they're taking over the vehicle!!!

It will come out of the budget that the home office supplies to each constabulary each year.

To be honest, there's been plenty of times when I've been driving a panda to an "immediate" call when I've set off the speed cameras on the A64 at Leeds. A quick call to the radio room has prevented me getting a ticket so far.

AS far as this guy goes...... he's done what a lot of people on here "preach" to others to do. Innocent until proven guilty, and looking at the picture, there's not much chance of an id on there is there? Fair enough, he's not practising what he preaches, but looking at the car its a CID or project team car, and usually those guys would rather eat something unpleasant than venture into traffic law.

What people have to appreciate is, police officers face certain elements of the public on a daily basis, who use the failings in the law to create loopholes and make it very difficult for authority to cause them to face any appropriate consequences. It's only obvious that these "tricks of the trade" will be picked up.

I know a few, but they're aces up my sleeve, should they be called for as and when appropriate.

Can't really comment on this one, as a) its not my own Force, and b) its not me.

Don't get me wrong - I don't expect to be let off when faced with this kind of offence - in fact I would probably get a bigger sentence than Joe Public, due to me being in a position of trust etc. Also, I would be likely to face internal disciplinary action, maybe resulting in a fine or demotion, so its like having 2 bites at the cherry.

Food for thought though........ ask for the appropriate evidence when faced with this kind of offence. Obviously, I don't condone speeding or driving recklessly, but I am human. Pity some of the other guys in my job aren't.

All this may not make too much sense. Blame it on the few bottles of Stella I just had

Burr... Am I right in assuming you work at the plod station at the top of the a64?

I have to admit I have nowt but respect for West Yorkshire police... everytime I was stopped I was asked if it was my car as they have a lot stolen, each time they said make sure you have a cat1 and tracker... To which I reply I have... normally spend 15 - 20 mins discussing the merits of my car vs their t5 and how they wouldnt catch me!!... They always seem to say we would love them but cant have them...

I'm still amazed that the vehicle logs aren't checked. I have to sign four times when I take over a fire engine.

We get flashed regularly, not by cameras though...

Thumbs down

That's the point I was trying to make.We the public would not get away with saying we did not know who was driving our vehicle.Someone would have to take the rap.
Cheers Paul.

I have to say If I was the copper... I dont think I'd admit it..

if it was someone on here, we would be asking for names of solicitors that would get us off... or looking for loop holes...

Not naming any names, but certain members of 'we the public' have managed to get away with this one
