Why are so many program's blatantly staged??
There's so many obvious set-ups on program's these days, more noticeably on all the American kinds. Are we not meant to realise or do the producers know that we know it's a set-up and that they do it for higher "entertainment" purposes?
- Storage wars and all the other similar variants.
- Flipping Vegas
- Lizard lick towing
- Wheeler dealers
- Top gear
- Bounty hunter
....and a lot more too! So much bad TV around these days.

Probably costs. If it was reality there would need to be a camera on every person involved , then all the footage would need to be reviewed/edited to get all the good bits extracted to make a decent show from it. Easier and cheaper just staging it , just a pitty they dont use better actors.

The whole 'less is more' way of thinking has vanished in TV progs. A lot of these shows would be quite good if they didn't stage everything.

To be fair any program that has high quality cameras rolling on it will probably be scripted / staged in some way.
Who would send out 000's of pounds of equipment on a just in case bit of footage.
At least Catchphrase isn't staged.

I've never met anyone that through any of these programs weren't staged. There are some people that don't care and maybe fall for it a bit but if you ask them to think about it they seem to come to the right conclusion. Its just a bit of light entertainment if you don't like it then just don't watch it. There is a great range of programs these days some better than others. I quite like some of the staged ones some times they make me laugh.

I think American Hot rod in the earlier day wasn't staged. Obviously some of the fooling around was for the camera, but the cars were real, made by real people in the trade, for real customers. I like shows like that.
Fred Dibnah in the early days was fascinating. Later stuff became scripted documentaries, but it often would see him wondering through his shed/workshop looking at bits he fabricated for a steam engine or something
It amazes me how many people think Edd China is a top mechanic. When many people in the industry cry when they see thats how public perceives them. In reality, he probably has a generalised working knowledge of automotive mechanics but his actual trade is a fabricator and probabaly has an advisor off screen to tell him what to say and do.

Most of the US shows you mention are made my the same company, truTV, and they call it 'actuality' TV rather than reality - it's staged but in an effort to recreate actual events
So yes, avoid anything involving this company if you want non-staged US tv.

ultimately it is simply lazy programme/film making
a bit like phone hacking being lazy journalism
I suspect real life is much more compelling, - but harder, costlier and riskier to produce
so, as with so much in the modern world - go with the simplest easiest solution that gives the best ROI - and stage it

Classic Car Rescue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mario & Bernie.More script writers than Morecambe & Wise only not funny.
Mario drives the newly sprayed Merc SL out of the spray booth, damaging it.
'Why did you do that?' asks Bernie
'I was bored.' replies Mario.
So realistic.

yeah watched that last night - my god!! - it was soooo annoying - cue a massive staged 'argument' over nothing every five mins - "But mawioooo you didn't let me finish checking the car!" , "But Bernie we had to buy it, it was online and going up". I almost turned it off, as I don't need the massively shouty aggro in my life on a relaxing evening.... it spoilt the program totally - waaay, waaay over the top.

Why do the producers feel the need to stage a programme like Classic car rescue???
Its as if they think were're all 8 years old and must be "entertained" like kids at a punch and judy show or some brain dead teenage girl whose vocabulary consists of only " oh my god", or "its like"!!!
Please, please producers, give us some shows for real- dont treat us like daft kids needing to be "entertained" constantly!
