Talking Drove up to Scotland for the weekend....

...from Bristol, for a night out in Edinburgh

Anyway, on the way back, I made a small diversion off the M74 and found a cracking loop of B-raods (some of the other roads weren't bad either). There wasn't much tarmac in places, but it was worth it for the scenery alone!

I 2nd that. Up in the Cairngorns (or however you spell it) is truly amazing. The road that runs right across the very north coastline of Scotland is pretty special too. Me and a few friends go up to Scotland every year on our motorbikes. Brilliant roads, hardly any traffic (once your north of Glasgow anyway), and beautiful scenery Scotland really is a driving/riding paradise

I 3rd it...did a road trip up to the highlands last summer, stopping off in edinburgh / glasgow / fort william etc before heading further north.

Incredible scenery and great roads, I think Subarus were built for this!

Thanks for the comments guys. I appreciate that there's much more to Scotland, but I had another 5 hours of motorway driving ahead of me, so didn't stray too far from my intended course!

The small diversion was from J13 of the M74, along the B797 to Leadhills, then the B7040 down to J14 of the M74, about 10 miles in total. From there, it was only around another 300 miles back home!
