SMACS are losing it!
Well, they were today! But after spending the morning and afternoon having skid car training, they are now well prepared for any further incidents
Big thanks to Malcolm and Steve from carcontrol who took us through the excellent training today. We started off with a quick classroom session on car balance, under and oversteer, 4 wheel skids and smooth braking and acceleration. After that, it's into the skid control car:
Once you've got a feel for the weight of the car, your instructor will then add or subtract grip front or rear depending on the effect needed.
More weight at the front, lots of oversteer, more on the rear, understeer city
Once we'd practised lots of fun oversteer, in teams of 3, we then moved on to a timed course, and of course, we're not very competitive!
The results of our competition on the sunday was Carl in the top spot, with a perfect run, with myself and Supertouring in 5th and 6th as we spun out
On the day before, JohnWRX came first in the morning session and then bre3tt came first in the afternoon session
The final session today saw Repsol1 take the lead
Saturdays session boys!
Martin Sti in action!
All in all, for the price of a tank of petrol, it's been the best day of driver training I've had. The chance to really lose it in complete safety, and learn from my mistakes there and then has been invaluable. I and pretty much everyone who have been on this over the weekend highly recommend this event.
A short 26mb wmv film can be downloaded from here: http://www.scoobysmacs.co.uk/Videos/skid%20training.wmv enjoy!

Our venue for the day:
What Mike (TI7OJO) did to the tires after his donuts:
And yes, that is the canvas!!!
