SMACS to Wales 05. Mini tour!
Once again, a big thanks to supertouring and carl555dbm for a cracking route around north wales on sunday.
The general opinion at the end of the day was that we were knackered, after some of the best roads and driving we'd done for a long time.
So, here are just a few pictures of the day. I didn't take many stills, as the driving was so good, but I did get pretty much most of the route on video
I will make a DVD of the day, if I get enough interest to do so. Cost will be the usual £5 per disc posted. (Ask the derbyshire lot about the quality )
The scenery on the day was spectacular, with stormy welsh skys in the background, and a mix of snow, sleet and rain on the weather front.
Here is just a small clip of the day on video. This is the road that takes you past the Llen reservoir, which is pictured in EVO MAGAZINE this month.
right click, save as
The file is 21.1 mb in size, and reduced in quality to get it on the web.
A small selection of the pics I took on the day:
Meeting with the Welsh contingent in Ruthin
Pausing on top of the EVO TRIANGLE for a regroup
Swamping the Shell at betsy co ed
and finally, our newest member, martin, with his wrx automatic.

You can just see me in the distance with an Audi S4 glued to my tail!
Just as well that micra did not turn up before it did - otherwise you would have had to reverse all the way back to the start!

Looks a fun day out I think we at the WYIOC (West Yorks) may have to have a chat about joining you on a similar run sometime
Just one question How come after driving on wet, gritted and snowy roads, all the cars look clean ??? Mine looks like it's just finished a wet gravel stage 2 minutes after leaving my house on even a damp day

CB - it would be a pleasure to have you aboard, but it would have to be a 2 day event as doing it all in 1 day was too much.
If you want a copy of the maps we used then give me a shout and I will be happy to send you a copy.
As for clean - the pictures just do not show how filthy the cars actually were. I am having to chisel mine clean!

Nice vid Chris!
That was the road I was gutted I missed going over with you lot
Loved it when I first found it and even better in a group – we did it on our Christmas run.
Great commentary too :
“Is this a two way road?”!!!! … Think that Micra would have found out it was very much a one way road at that time !!!!!
And “Bl00dy Hell” …. As you discover the notorious cattle grid with that handily (not) placed signpost on the outside !!!!
See you soon, Carl

John WRX, your first on the list m8
Think I'll do one with chapters for each of the roads we went on, that way, it'll be easy to navigate the film
I'll let you know when its done,
We were so lucky with the micra, if it had been any earlier, we'd have been in trouble. Got caught out on some of the other roads behind slower cars, fortunatly, they found places to pull out of our way

Great vid and pics Chris, nice one. Put me down for a DVD please.
I think one of the slow cars that Chris got caught behind would have been me, and the video proves it. Soz Chris......
I was too busy taking in the scenery , its was spectacular ! and that cattle grid was total understeer !
Great day with a great bunch of people...Really enjoyed it.
And the weather was nice to us, most of the time.

Can everyone who ordered one pm me their address, so I can send them out asap.
Its very good by the way, as I've got the hang of this dvd lark now

Chris,
i got some in car footage, some of which aint bad....but as im not as clever as you, i dont know how to host it.
Ive got 57mins footage in total ...some when i was behind you, on that video'd section.
Its not quite at spliced and tidied up, as i dont know how to do it, but, im sure i can cut some out.
If you can send me some help, that would be useful.
Cheers mate

crickey frank, now your asking
I use pinnacle studio version 8 for my editing. upload the film to your pc, via firewire, then edit with pinnacle, then burn to a dvd.
that makes it sound so easy, and for the most part it is, just the editing bit that takes a bit of imagination and flair
adding chapters, soundtracks, titles, photos, sound effects et al is the hard bit, and knowing what to leave in, and what to take out is the hardest bit.
If your using win xp on your pc, you may have ms's own editer, which even my 8 year old can use
please, please, please though, DONT send me any footage for editing

you've got to choose a format to render it in, ie: windows media player *wmv* real player, mpeg, back to recorder. there are a few options, the best for the web is wmv, and a small file size, typically around 20mb for about 10mins of footage.

So far I'm seeing quite a few pictures of chris trying to overtake other scoobs on the run! Or is that just for camera effect?
