Start off in France, pass briefly through Switzerland, back into France and on up to Chamonix

Stop off for light refreshments and then a pose beside the glacier...

Then it's into the Mont Blanc tunnel for 11.5 kilometres

And out the other side into Italy...

Jolly on down the road awhile and into Aosta

Little bit of wearing on the credit card in the shops and we're bang on time for one of these

Turn round and come back home again, just in time for tea

A 3 country trip of about 330 kms. Only took about an hour and 20 mins to get there without the stop over.

Kicker is...FORGOT to play the Italian lottery ARGH !!!! 60 million euros up for grabs.

Might go back Saturday !!!

LOL !

The scenery is breathtaking, the roads are fantastic and to be honest, those offset the pizza which wasn't that good we didn't hang around for the gelato (ice cream) in the restaurant either but had that elsewhere. Mind you, can't grouse too much, it was a dirt cheap meal - 6 euros for a full size pizza for which I would normally pay double!

Plenty more restaurants to try in that region and next time I might even ignore the kids and head off for the St Bernadino pass after lunch

Frenchie
did a similar trip a few weeks ago, except from Caen ! We went through the Frejus tunnel and stayed in a place just a few hundred metres into italy , called Bardonnecia (sp) we were there to do the stella Alpina rally on our Dirt bikes. Scenery was superb.

Thanks guys.

You know, I was just thinkin' about Big Goon's post and then read the others...I might get the location but YOU guys get to go to the meets, runs and enjoy talking to other english speaking scooby owners. I wish !!!

I suggest scoobynet organize a run through central Europe taking in all the scenery and passing by my part of the continent so I can join in !

Thumbs up

Hey STI-Frenchie, thanks for the pics - Was in Chamonix a couple of years ago and reckon I must have stood in exactly the same place as you as I seemed to have taken exactly the same picture!

Great scenery that you have to see in real life to appreciate the scale (just don't go up to the top of Mont Blanc if you have a phobia of cable cars, as I found out........!)

There is a post in International about it.

Hey Frenchie!!

I like your style! I love Valle d'Aosta - namely Cervinia, as I have skied there a fair few times. I also lived in Valle Susa - Sauze d'Oulx for two years. Great roads!!

All the best,

Mossman

Wurzel - I'm just finishing off a 4 week vacation and that run looks really good but probably a bit long for me. I'd need to take a day off either side of the weekend if I was going to attempt it!

Mossman - yeah, the roads are great around Aosta, pity about the drivers on them! I've driven in Italy before but had forgotten the rule where it says "ignore all stop signs"

TVR Gary - looking forward to seeing your pics post 'em up here so folks will get some more ideas of how gorgeous the area is.

Pity I didn't know you were going to be around my little part of the globe could've shared our pizza's with you

Just saw a little piece on the french news about the glacier at Chamonix...melting quicker than ever in these temperatures. So scoobynetters, get your keys, get your cars and come have a look at it for yourselves before it disappears.

STi- Frenchie....

I agree with you about the glacier melting, you only had to look at the water going through the river in the center of town to realise something was not quite right. I also went to Mount Titlus in Switzerland and took the cable car to the summit .... very strange playing at snowballs in boiling heat.

Can an eye open as i will post the piccys in the next couple of days...

I didnt go alot on the tunnel myself, damned expensive and only allowed to do 60KMH ..... not good ....haha

Quality thread

Would love to go and play in some real mountains with the Scoob but looks like our trip to Catalunya may well be in the Clio as we need to take it back to Toulouse to get serviced
