No worries mate, enjoy yourself.
I did 5 laps and to be honest that was probably the right number for me in a day. Many more and I would have been feeling seriously sorry for the car. Mind you it was around 38 degrees at the time.
Davy boy does around ten a day I think. I have to say its great fun but not so enjoyable when there is nothing else out on the track infront or behind. Best thing to do in my humble opinion is wait untill you see a couple of interesting cars go down to the gate, get yourself down there and off you go.
Biggest suprise to me was only being overtaken by about 4 bikes, but overtaking around ten myself.
Have a look at Davyboys website and the other one from Ben Lovejoy before you go, well worth a look

it should be ready in time for the sept ring trip, it would be a complete disaster if it isnt because that would mean i really made a mess of it.
Best advice i can give for newbies at the ring is drive what you see and no more, dont go for a lap time, you will make a mess of the car!
If you can, find an experienced ringer and ask to follow them on a steady lap to learn some of the lines. It takes a long time to learn the track properly and be aware enough to start to push the car.

I hope you get it ready.
I am going with a very experienced ringer as a passenger and I am hopefully driving a couple of laps with tuition (sp ) so that should be I have heard lots of people saying that it's not a good idea to time laps because it pushes you to go faster
