Ooch. After I fell of a Quad Bike
#1
A few years ago during one of our Network Q rally weekends I fell off a quad bike and broke my wrist. Electing to have a pin in the bone instead of a cast for 6 weeks (I'd just got my scooby and was my wrist would heal quicker this way), I had the below x-rays took a few months after the op.
May be a bit quemmish to some.

Oh, and I'm never going near another quad bike as long as I live....

Robert,
They took the pictures with an X-ray machine that shows the pictures on a TV screen in real time (WinXray ha, ha). It was really spooky watching as you moved your hand and saw all the bones moving on the screen. Ecxellent to watch.
Martin,
How did that happen. Looks VERY painfull. When I broke my scaphoid I didn't realise for three days!! (in the voice of Homer) Mmmmmm Endomorphine.....

MUA is manipulation under anaesthesia
The second set of radiographs shows a spiral fracture of the tibia and fibula which has been fixed with an intramedullary nail. In fact it is a locked intramedullary nail
They are usually removed after a year. Don't break your leg again until it is out because a bent IM nail is a bugger to get out!
By the way the screw in your scaphoid is a Herbert screw

Fluoroscopy is the machine that lets you watch your bones move in real time. Also called an image intensifier (I believe).
Ok Doc, you've hit my limit there!
My mum's a radiographer (25 years) so it kinda rubs off...

What I really would have liked to have seen when they fixed the screw is some video of the operation. Since I had a general, I've no idea what it was like, but I'd like to have see it afterwards. Must have been quite a bit of work involved because it hurt like hell for about a week afterwards.
