After a bit of a serious kerbing had no option but to get wheels refurbed. First, a match for original colour was tried, nut alas, no go. So second attempt was to go much darker. These are the results -
Big thanks to Roadwheel in Bagshot for an excellent job and sorting me out when I wasn't happy about the first result.

Cheers for the comments
Ozzy - the original attempt ended up with the wheels being mostly silver with a hint of blue. Roadwheel had got in touch with Subaru and had a paint delivered, but not even close to the original. I had posted about about a paint code for RB5 wheels in technical, but apparently, it's never been released (and I'll be buggered if I'm gonna buy 4 new wheels!). Might be worth specifying that your car is an RB5 and see what the refurb comapny can find out before you go ahead.

Put it this way if I owned a RB5 I'd be having them done this colour! Looks much better than the original I reckon..
I powder coated my EVO VI oz's last year a very similar shade and they looked superb!

The cost of the refurb was £47/wheel.
To be honest, the pics don't do it justice as the darker wheels really bring out the blue in the body colour. I much prefer it to the original and I'm extremely happy with the results!

looks really good.
I was at roadwheel a few weeks ago & asked about their re-furb service. They showed me the anthracite that they use in a tin but it didn't give me a good idea as to what it looked like on a wheel.
Is that colour "their" standard anthracite ? Or can it be made lighter/darker if you want ?
Thanks for any help.

Ro - not sure whether they can lighten or darken the anthracite that is in the tin. They did show me another set of wheels that were in a much lighter shade, so that would suggest they can alter the colouring. Easiest thing to do is ask them - on the first attempt for my wheels they got in paint specially, so tell them what you want and I should imagine they'll do their best to get the colour match you want.

Very Nice drumsterphil
Get the windows tinted and you can go into stealth mode also a WR spoiler on the back and a deep chin spoiler.
Do you now park in the middle of the road to avoid the kerbs?

(btw, it was the previous owner that had mullered the wheels)
As for the styling changes, I kinda like it in 'semi-stealth' mode at the mo',but who knows what the future holds..........

Cheers for the comments!
Mr Manchester - considering they had the wheels (in their original colour btw), why would they need the car?! Surely there's enough indication of the colour by that?!
I do not know the in's & out's of paint matching, but there first effort didn't work even though they actually contacted Subaru and had the paint esp. delivered. Remedial action was discussed at that point and trying a darker colour was agreed. They would have been more than happy to try for another colour match had I asked them, but I now have a car that looks different from the majority of RB5's and, to my eyes, is a definite improvement.

i meant try a range of paint shops, they usually come out to the car with a few colour cards and try them against the wheels until they find an exact match.

No worries m8
To be honest, I didn't think of that. With the damage to the wheels and the reputation that Roadwheel have (very good btw) I just left it to them to see what they could do. I was impressed that they'd managed to repair the rims and get a decent finish in just a day, in the first place.
In the end it's all worked out for the best, and that's what counts the most
Cheers
