I'm glad I fitted some mesh to my car! The only damage was to 4 out of 6 cable ties holding the mesh in place.
If you can guess the speed of impact, the geographic location I hit it, and what it had for it's last meal, you win a prize !!

I reckon your car was parked up at your house and was obviously stationary, the bird was looking for a quiet place to sleep and its last meal was mesh

Before, I start getting death threats from Rolf Harris and Co, I should make it clear that I did not staple above bird to the road to enable me to mash it. I was driving along, below the speed limit when it decided to fly into me !
My post was mainly to explain why fitting mesh may save radiator/air-con radiator damage.

Hmm i prolly would have posted what happened but not the pic...i hate it when animals get killed wether its an accident or not. I had the same thing happen to me but instead of the bottom grille this bird decided to fly into my bloody intercooler scoop. I too was only doing 60ish on a dual carriageway. Sad when things like that happen i think!

I'm always hitting peasants when I'm out driving my car
They leave nasty marks on my bonnet what with the zips in their kappa shell suits and gold hoopla earings!

or a fox... (been there, done that and the t-shirt doesn't fit )
Ian - did you have to do any drilling to tiewrap the mesh in? Is it a std wrx as I've got some kind of sensor / connection just to the RHS of the centre post whick sticks proud a bit and might make it awkward getting mesh in - same on yours?
