Default LED Lightbar

I was working at Rally GB on a Rescue unit. When I turned up to meet the crew I noticed that the gaffer had fitted an LED lighbar to the front of the unit. (an Iveco van)

We chatted about them and he said they were really good. We then drifted off to Penmachno. After that stage we all piled into the van and he fired it up and turned the lights on.

To say the LED's were amazing would be an understatement!! They were incredibly bright. It was almost daylight with them on!! I'm now seriously thinking about getting one for the Scooby.

This is what he bought.

Thoughts?

Probably highly illegal if it's not e-marked, but hey....

Where would you fit it on a Scoob?

And what's the "throw" like? I've seen LED lights and they are good in the near distance, but unfocussed and poor in distance.

The light was pure white and lit up a good 500 yards or so.

Possibly illegal but I'll check. I have found a place in the UK that sells them.

I was thinking of fitting it above the number plate under the bumper as long as I was happy that it wouldn't interfere with the air getting to the rad too much.

To be honest it's just an idea I'm toying with. They were so impressive and are a decent price.

Bit low.

You may find it highlights the road surface too much, showing all the unevenness, rather than what you want to see.

They were really impressive lighting up a big circle of light if you know what I mean. Didn't highlight the road in any negative way.

If I hadn't been so bloody knackered I'd have taken a few pics.

Where did matey have it fitted and on what vehicle?

Just looked: an Iveco van...about two feet higher than a Scoob at the front for a start!

You can get the same lightbar with all spots not floods and spots.

I know, but my point is the same: unless you can get the lights a reasonable distance off the ground, you won't get the spread, or the throw your mate gets.

Buy one and try it

How are they different to ordinary spotlights?

The spread on the LED spots is 8 degrees iirc?

They aren't different, but unless you've ever seen a light unit mounted low down, in use, you'll not understand my point.
Get one and look.

Then you'll see if you can live with it.

Cheers for all the advice.

I'd rather not spend a wedge of cash on something I can't live with.

I may try the LED's or go with PIAA spots.

You could always bonnet mount it?

Personally, I'd NOT go PIAA either, they have a nast habit of corroding their lenses, seen loads do it, never seen a cure.

Hella 1000FF are they way to go IF you can find any.
Plus, with an HID kit, you have super power lights, see here: https://www.scoobynet.com/technical-...-lamp-kit.html

Post number 26..the last shot shows how the undulations in the road are highlighted by low mounted lights. I can live with mine. The extra light and the incredible range are enough.

I don't want to bonnet mount it as they don't look good on rally cars let alone my every day Scoob.

I'd love some Hellas but the price and availability puts me off.

Mind you I've just looked on the bay and found these.

Are these what you have Jeff?

Yep...except that mine are original HID ones.

However, fit those with an HID kit, you'll have 99% of the same thing.

If you check around, you MIGHT still get some Scoob brackets, if not they are pretty easy to make, or have made.
