Indicating left or right activates the flashers on BOTH sides... any ideas?
Hi,
hoping someone has an idea what might be the problem with my 1996 WRX
ALL my indicators are coming on when I indicate. Basically my indicator stalk is now functioning like the hazard switch. I hit left... everything flashes on both sides of the car. Same for when I hit right
I changed out the colum switch with a replacement unit but it hasn't made any difference
any ideas on what could be causing this?
thanks
Nick

Have you got an alarm fitted? Possibly the blocking diodes(as usually alarms flash the indicators on arming) have shorted and that's why when you turn either way all bulbs light?

I do have an alarm fitted. I have no idea what make it is though.
there are 2 orange wires that have been retro fitted and are soldered into part of the loom coming from the column switch. When I removed the old column switch I snipped these and soldered them into the same wires on the replacement switch. perhaps these are the wires that trigger the indicators when the alarm is armed?
I'll try disconnecting them and see if it cures the problem
do you know what colour the wires are for the indicators on the section of loom that comes off the column switch? I *think* they were green/red
