What the problem is on mine is my alternator wont charge my battery. Ive tested it and it works fine but what im thinking is the relay is stck open so thats whats causing it. ive checked all my fuses etc but all is ok. the car will jump fine and keep ticking over but as soon as i take the leads off it slowly dies as its draining the battery.

ok so when you say you have tested it in what way, have you started the car with leads and put a volt meter on it to see your charge, you will need to remove the other leads from donor car, but have you replaced your battery, if the cells in the battery are buggered then it won't hold any kind of charge, that relay your looking for could be the relay in the alternater itself,
you should be getting at least 13.8v when car is running up to 14.8v as there is a regulater in the alternator set at 15v i believe,
don't worry we'll get to the bottom of it

Ive just been to the garage and tried some more with no joy. Does the alternator itself have a relay located within the unit? Whats happening now is the alternator wont charge at all. If i jump the car with no battery on am i right in thinking if when i take the leads off the alternator will keep the car running if its working. If the battery is shot could that brake the alternator?

other way round if the regulater goes in the alternater it will overcharge the battery and basiclly boil it dry, i would get a alternator of a breaker and a brand new battery from your local halfords or car spares shop, then start it up and switch everything on and check your charge rate..........also what you will need to do is a current draw test, we'll leave this for now see how you get on

Quick update. Charged up my battery and got a new alternator and starts up and runs fine. Only thing ive noticed now is my car will idle ok but when i moove then come to a stop the revometer gos right to the bottom almost as if the car wants to stall and then gos back up to normal idle position. im going to take it to get my alternator and battery checked today and change my idle sensor and my throttle position sensor and see if that makes any difference.
