Has anybody experianced an "earthing problem" which causes one of the dipped beams to Die

I have Scoobysport CIBIE's and HID Morettes but today after much investigation by Stuart (and the removal of all Scoobysport kit) it transpires that there is a earthing problem within the lighting loom so its of to the Main Dealer on Monday

Just wondered if anybody had experianced anything similar

Phil

Phil, funny you should say that I noticed my nearside headlight was out and after a while it kept coming back on and going off ,mine is a MY01 with uprated bulbs 80/100 I checked all the connections , which were ok and in my case there was no sign of the connectors welding to the bulbs due to the increased wattage, since making and breaking the connections it seems to be ok,I was puzzled why it had happened though....

Cool

Dealers 1st response to Scoobysport was put a Brand new set of bulbs in the original OEM Sockets as this will clear the problem

Stuart said that would not solve it and sure enough didn't makea blind bit of difference

So It must be a short in the OEM wiring

Dropped the car of at the dealers this morning

Currently driving one of my company's pool Vauxhall Vectra's
What a horrid car only 2000 miles on the clock but it's S**T
Now I know why our staff keep moaning about me having the Scooby

I had a dissapearing/dim light when I had my MY00 and it may be the same issue. The problem was the connector that goes onto the back of the bulb. It appears that the brass connectors inside lose their spring tension.

Pull the plug off and with a small screwdriver re-tension the connectors. Put the blade behind one of the brass connectors and give it a slight twist. It worked for me. You'll see what I mean when you look at the plug.

Question

Hi Phil

I have a dim LH headlight at the moment. It's the same on dipped and main beams. If you pull the fuse or relay the light stays on so it's picking up a feed from somewhere. The AVO says it's about 0.8V.

Almost certainly a duff earth but I don't want to start pulling things apart unitl I can get hold of a wiring diagram.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Cheers

Red face

He found a dodgy fuse and explained that when a fuse "goes" it sends a small residual current through hence the dull light

£95 for that bit of information

Scoobysport then found that one of the HID balast units was not working

Pete replaced this under warranty

So the fuse wasn't found to be defective?

A bit worrying that they go this easily, don't HIDs run less current than standard bulbs as well?

Thumbs up

Nigel

No the fuse had blown allegedly despite it being checked before being dropped off

Still the lights are now working
