PowerBulbs - good deal!
#1
Guys - as the Impreza lights are at best 'nothing special' I decided to take the plunge and get some new headlight bulbs. Here's what I got, like most Scooby drivers ....
Philips Vision plus H4 kit along with a pair of W5W Philips Blue Vision sidelights which are free with any pair of bulbs order through the website at the moment (would cost £7.50), shipping is also free. The inclusive price was £19.50!!

Just thought I'd let anybody interested know ....

You called Phil??
BL - side lights on the Morrettes are standard W5 (also sometimes called W5W) 12v 5w. I've put the PIAA Superwhites in mine, the HIDs make the side lights look a dirty shade of yellow - these are much better. Not sure if you can get them at Powerbulbs, but any 'white' sidelight should work fine.

Thanks to Phil from me too!
I've only had my Scooby a couple of months and although really impressed with the car, am less so with the (lack of) lights...
Also impressed with Powerbulbs delivery. I ordered mine around midnight on Wednesday, came in todays post :-)
Can't wait to get them fitted as anything would be an improvement. Also, you know these free sidelight bulbs, is there any real point in fitting them? I can't really see (no pun intended!) what benefit they'll give?
Cheers

you have to take off the grill and remove h/light to do the sidelights.Good design feature subaru.!!!!!!!!!!
which is easy but a pain, mind you don't loose any little grill clips as i did down into the sumpguard somewhere,,never found them again.

My local dealer reckoned those W5W blue sidelights are illegal.
Is that true?
Also, it looks a bloody nightmare changing the head/sidelight bulbs on the MY01- how long has it taken you to do?

These bulbs are bloody brilliant!!! Seriously, if anyone hasn't got a set, get some now, it's probably the best £20 I've ever spent. Just fitted them yesterday, went out last night and thought I had the main beam on
Can't really see how the blue sides can be illegal They do have a blue coating, but don't emmit a blue colour at all, well none I could see!
Well chuffed

The W5W BV or the T4W BV which are the official names for the Blue Philips side lights you will note are E marked. This means that the lamps (bulbs) are officially classed as White lamps. The colour white according to the official regulations is an area as opposed to just a single point. The colour temperature of the lamp will depend on its X, Y coordinate in the chromoticity diagram. This explains why the cooler (yellower) standard lamp and the hotter (Whiter) BlueVision lamps are both legal. They are just at different points in the white area.
If you want more details please ask. The important thing with regards the police is the E number on the lamp. Not ALL blue lamps have this and maybe your dealer has seen examples that dont

The best way to tackle the headlamps on the MY01 is to remove them - not as bad as it sounds as the bolts are quite accessable. I found it easier to remove the grill first and then remove the lamp units. I believe they are only held in by three bolts. Once they are out, it is much easier to change the bulbs.

Ordered Wednesday evening, arrived Friday morning. Add another satisfied customer. The Powervision bulbs are much brighter, they appear to be about twice as bright as the standard bulbs. Better still the light is a "clean white" light, rather than the "dull yellow" of the originals. Sidelights are also nice & white and not blue (I wonder how many sales they lose because people think they will look blue?) and seem to match the appearance of the headlights perfectly. You really know that you have your headlights on now, instead of having to look at the stalk to be certain!!
Didn't take long to change all the bulbs, only about half an hour. Could do it in ten now I know which bits to squeeze and which bits to unscrew!
