Changing the Battery
Righty, picked up my Impreza last week, 99 UK Turbo and the battery died this morning. Obviously I'm not that thisk that I don't know how to change it however what codes and stuff will I need? Is there a certain way of doing it etc? Also, there's a number pad in the glovebox - what is this? Cheers in advance.
Just whip out the old one and replace.
I thnk the codes and stuff you're referring to could be when people reset their ECU's by disconnecting the battery.
Number pad is probably linked with your alarm, especially if its a UK with a Sigma(You should have been supplied with the imstruction book and alarm code for your car)

Also, another stupid question but is there any way I can check if my car's got an immobiliser?
All 99MY Impreza Turbos have a full Sigma M30 Cat 1 as standard (Thatcham evaluation number for your insurance company's ref is TC2-808/0198).
In addition to the Sigma M30's 2 circuit immobiliser, the vehicle also has a factory transponder immobiliser (although not to Thatcham specification) that cuts the engine ECU.
If you want to check operation of the Sigma immobiliser, leave the drivers window down, arm the alarm with the doors shut, try to start the car with the key through the open window - the alarm will trigger when the ignition is turned on and the engine shouldn't crank. If the starter cut is operational you can assume the other cut is too, as its difficult to test.
Due to the operation of the factory transponder, this is a little more difficult to test without stripping keys or steering column cowls, but I assure you the vehicle has it.
