Unhappy

I have a 2000my turbo fitted with prodrive PIAA's. Two days ago it went to the dealer for its 6 month service and to have its "memory" cleared, I mentioned that the PIAA's had condensation in the lens and that the back plates were starting to corrode, the paint peeling off the edges. I was informed on collection that the condensation was ok not being a pool of water in the bottom of the lens, and that they would remove the back plates and "hammerite" them the next time is was in for service. Am I being to picky to expect new back plates on a 21k motor with lighting kit in excess of £300. Oh they would'nt use my mobile one prefering there "elf" roll on end of warranty?.

Dump the dealer. Try John Wildings in Kendal, bit of a drive (same for me as I'm in Preston) but 1st rate service, use what oil I want. And when you go, you have the excuse for a 'play' in the lakes!!

Sound like a very unco-operative dealer. Is your car an import?

That being said, Mobil one is not recommended, Mobil M/sport is fine, as is Shell Helix (Helix is what Subaru UK recommend)

Bryan..

Had mine for 8 months or so now and no condinsation and no rust on back plates ...

IMHO I'd get a second opinion ...

Bryan,

My original PIAA brackets had no corrosion. I then changed them for some shorter ones from Graham Goode and the powder coating started to come off afer no time at all!

Any condensation in the lights is unacceptable, get the dealer to change the seal (available from Demon Tweeks).

Cool

whatever, most people would read it as that it was!

Mobil 1 MS invalidates your warranty, it is fine as a top up but the specially formulated Mobil 1 can be got exclusively from Scooby dealers.

Didn't say it was

Helix (semi-synthetic) is what Subaru UK recommend, but Mobil m/sport is fine in the car. Dozens of scoobs run it with no problems.

I run Helix fully synth

..in theory, but Helix is the only oil that is officially warranty friendly, and very few Subaru dealers actualy use Helix so the warranty issue of using non-Helix oils is to be taken with with a pinch of salt.

Officially by using Helix fully synthetic I am invalidating the warranty - watch them try!!!

Question

Is Silkolene Pro S 10W 50 (fully synth) ok for your warrenties? It's a good oil, and maybe a good choice instead of Mobil 1 Motorsport. (Mine's n import, so warranty doesn't apply)

Hi getting back to the condensation problem, are you sure the lenses are fitted the right way up?. There is a gap in the seal which needs to be at the bottom to let any water drain out.The writing on the lens will be upside down if they are not fitted properly.

Also the two screws holding the lens need to be tight to pull the lens against the seal
