WRX03 wiper relay noise
#1
Hello,
Just a long shot, but has anyone experienced a strange spring noise when the windscreen wipers are set to anything bar the fastest intermittent wipe?
I've had it into the dealer the other day for the service and asked them to take a look at this too. They said that many WRX03 owners complained about the same thing but its not got a fix and Subaru UK haven't experience the issue.
Comments appreciated

I can hear the relay 'click' when using it on intermittent but its not worth complaining about. The main problem with the wipers, though, is that they clean great going up and bad coming back!

yes, thats the noise describe to a 'T'. Happens instead of the wiper click. Really wierd. Funnily enough it has stopped since the service even thought the engineer said he couldn't fix it???

Frank, there was a post on this several days ago and quite a few people had this issue with their new cars. No one knew how to fix it and the option was that the dealers couldn't be arsed / didn't know how to fix it. The noise is bloody annoying.
Also, my wipers make a horrible noise on the last 2 inches of their travel (at the top of the wipers stroke). They don't catch on anything and the screen wasn't contaminated with grease. Any ideas?

Mine is like a small squeak at the end of the wiper sweep. Tends to stop when the car has warmed up

mmm so this does look to be common. Ohh, I tried mine this morning and it does still do it. I just get the spring noise, not the other noise you guys have mentioned.
I tell you what I think it is. I've checked the wiper relay and the noise doesn't come from there. The noise seems to come from the steering column, especially where the wiper arm goes in.
I managed to get my hands on copy of the manual so I could see exactly what the column consists of. Theres somthing called a 'Combination switch' which the wiper arm is part of. This contains all the gubins for the timed swipe electronics etc and I thinks this is whats faulty.
As I say my local dealer have got a called logged with Subaru Technical UK and are supposed to be getting back to me. If they neglect that there is a problem I'll raise the issue direct to Subaru myself to see what happens.
I've had success with something before where the dealer didn't want to know.
