The standard headlights leave a little to be desired - whats the best way to improve the lighting? I'm a little wary of putting high-watt light bulbs - on my last car they overheated and lasted a week....

Most cost effective route is to get a set of Philips Vision Plus in em!!
About £20ish quid for a set plus you get a free set of sidelamp bulbs (Or you did the last time I looked!!) from Powerbulbs (If you upgrade the headlamp bulbs but don't change the sidelight bulbs they look very 'yellowy' in comparison to the new bulbs)

Good luck

Thanks Nick,
Any improvement welcome

Anyone know what sort of bulbs (H4?) a MY02 takes? The web site goes up to 1998 only...

Colin
The bulbs are H4 for the MY02's.
Think that might only get the sidelights free if order from the web. I ordered mine by phone about 2 years ago (for previous car- but swapped when got rid of car) and did not get the sidelights.
They do look a little yellow in comparision but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it !

Powerbulbs £19.50 with 'free' sidelights.
an alternative cheaper (by 51p) but no free sidelights.

I ordered from powerbulbs and they landed the next day

Bulbs arrived and fitted. Except the free sidelights - just how do you fit them? Seems like you have to dismantle half the car to get at them! Is there an easier way? The handbook is less than helpful

Lightbulb

1. Dismantle half the car.
2. Insert bulbs.
3. Reverse 1.

Seriously you do have to remove the grille and sidepanels to get to the sidelight. Undo headlight retaining bolts (3No.) and pull the headlight to the front of the car. You should be able to get the sidelight holder out and replace the bulb.

The sidelight bulbs normally live in the wing so are impossible to replace without the above procedure.

I found the handbook OK, look at pages 11-46 and 11-47. Only screwdriver and 10mm socket required.

TBH I'm surprised that you could do the headlamp bulbs without removing the headlamps I found the H4 bulbs very difficult to get out of the sockets. One of the terminals got damaged and I had to persuade it back into position.

Thanks - I feared that might me the case. The headlamps were fiddly, but not too hard. Worth fitting, though, as they do improve the headlamps quite noticeably.

I'll have a go at the sidelights, assuming it doesn't **** down...

Colin,

You do have to take out half the front of the car to change the sidelights. Whilst the lights are out, you may as well remove the yellow bug eyes ans install silver vision indicators like so...

Give me a shout if you need any help.

Steve
