its very hard to say whats the problem,if u dont elaborate abit on wat sort of running problems hes been having with the car and is it a sierra 2wd 4x4 or 3 dr r an escort cos, also when he replaced the sensors namely the crank sensor if hes replaced it,has he set the air gap on the sensor to the right distance as this can play havoc with running.

hiya, the car is a 4x4 saphire and its ticking over at 3000 rev's when it'll run plus is spluttering and backfiring.it's doing every stunt you can thing of.funny thing is its seemed to have got a lot worse after fitting sencer's,i don't remember all thats been fitted but its had them all.hes just spent another 170 pound today and still no joy.
i think someone else told him about gapping of some of the sencers but i really believe his problem would be well sorted if he could find a man who knows the in's and outs of cossies.we just can't seem to find one here in n'ireland

Default had this prob too

I had a 4x4 cossie saph and she ran the same too, thats why I got her cheap, I done the same, sensors, plugs, ecu, now although new plug leads where fitted it was the leads, I ended up buying a genuine Ford set @ over 100 quid, also changed the coil, this cured it, it was the **** leads, also check ur vacuum pipes if any of these r split it wont run right. only one man in the country for ford engines and thats Mervin mcReynolds in portadown, built many a great race engine or even Kenny McKinstry over in banbridge, his top mech Sam cut his teeth on cossies

agree with vacuum pipes and silly but make sure plugs are gapped correct as it make a big differance on the over all running as cossies can blow out spark easy cause of the shape of the head!

i work at a couple of wrc escort rally cars and it sounds like either a crankshaft sensor or a sticking anti lag valve on the throttle body ! if it has anti lag !

hard to know with this car,the guy who has it now is someone mckinstry would call if they are having problems with electrical gremlins,alarms/immobilizers stuff like that.he's just about stumped but in his own admission he has'nt worked with many cosworths and says others in the trade are'nt very helpfull with advice with these, its as if they don't want to give away secrets .only one who seemed interested was the owner of woodward garage in england who sells parts and tunes these cars.
just the other night my mate got someone with a pristine 4x4 to come up too banbridge and they swaped loads of bits, ecu, idle control valve etc etc.still ran the same.
the leads have been done, groupA coil, ignition module, new plugs and just about every electrical part the car has.every thing has been brand new and uprated motorsport where posible.
that guy mervin sounds like he be worth giving a shout,we will try and contact him tomorow.really bad thing is having to pay a man for his time and effort when the car needs to be taken away on a transporter
