If you pull out the cupholder you'll see a couple of screws, take these out.

The fascia around the radio just pulls out, the radio itself is held on with 6 screws.

Forrester pocket is the norm, I've got a blanking plate from the US that says Subaru on it and matches the colour of the dash. I think US cars don't have a radio fitted as standard?

Bubbaroo - I have one of the pockets that AndyMoody has mentioned - it's a propper Subaru item which I used on my Blob when converting to single din - its sitting in my garrage doing nought. PM me if you want it.

yep the forester pocket is the best thing to put in the space but it takes a bid of playing about with to get everything lined up right for fitting. my friend and i took loads of measurements to get mine right, if you know someone local who has done the conversion would be good to see if you could look at theirs to get all the measurments etc.

Mine is a propper Subaru item, not sure if it is for Impreza or Forester, got the number a long time ago from the inter-net, but it fits perfectly into the gap left, using 2 screws on either side through the metal frame that the stereo was fitted to. It certainly didn't involve any 'playing about' with that others seem to be experiencing????

The only number on it is PP-TD20

Update - just been googling and it seems there are 2 different types of pocket - one has a siver flap over it and the one I have which is just a black plastc storage compartment.

Part # 66128SA000 - with a silver flap, or
Part # 66128AE000 - a basic black pocket

Hope this clears it up!!!

The forester one is the plastic flap one. You have to remove the two metal plates from the side of the original head unit and attach these plates to the side of the single din pocket and you also have to attach the headunit aswell AND it has to be all lined up right so everything sits flush when installed( if you go for the forester pocket you no longer need the plastic surround on your single din head unit.

Pic when done....
