Default Newage aftermarket steering wheels

Is anyone running an after market steering wheel in a newage impreza. I want to fit a smaller aftermarket wheel to my sti8. Is it as simple as buying a steering wheel and a boss or do i need some sort of resistor etc.. to cancel the airbag light?

Any pics of your wheels would be great?

Thanks

I have one in my 01 WRX, bought the parts when I was working in Japan a few years back. You will need a wheel, strg whl boss fitting kit (to attach wheel to column shaft) and a specific airbag resistor connector (called a dummy squib).

The hard part is that the dummy squib which uses the original airbag connector cannot be bought this side of the water, or if it can I've never seen one. So the question is, what else can be done.

It is possible to insert a maplins resistor into the harness connector carefully to fool the airbag ECU into thinking a driver airbag is present. You would need to find out the ohm value from a wiring diagram or something like that.

Also, the insurance company would need to be told if this modification is done as it can affect personal injury entitlement.

i looked into this a while ago.

This place can also supply a hub etc that will work without issue.. JDM Parts, JDM Racing accessories, HKS, Greddy, Blitz, Tomei and more direct from Japan - RHDJapan

I have had stuff from them before and they are excellent.

I decided to hold off for a while tho, as once i priced up a wheel, quick release and a hub it came to over £500.

I'm sure I've read on the NASIOC that you can simply fit a 3ohm resistor across the pins but please check this out.

Most Momo, Sparco type steering wheel bosses have a similar hole pitch for the wheel. I bought a Raid boss kit which fits my Momo wheel on my Mini. The Raid item is identical but cheaper.

It raises the old insurance question about doing away with the airbag.

3 ohm resistors definitely work. Just a few pence each from Maplins.

I have 3 in my 2001 Bugeye car after fitting a Sparco wheel and seats from a Sti which come with no side airbags.

Just try not to crash!!.
