I am thinking of a car kit but most I have seen the mounting kit is very bulking and cheap looking. I have a Nokia 5110.

Any ideas for best place to mount.

Cool

The best place to mount one of these kits is horizontally in the tray in front of the gearstick. This way, if you ever sell your car, when the kit is removed, a simple mat in this area will cover any holes.

I think the kit I have for sale is compatible with a 5110. see for sale section.

If you go for a proper Nokia kit, you can get a mounting bracket, which sits behind the centre console! No need to drill holes in the dash!!

If you're in the Surrey area, you can have a glance at mine!

Cheap and chearfull, next to the handbrake with a blck fridge magnet. and use a personal hands free kit. Magnet was a couple of quid and you don't even notice it when the phone is not there.

Red face

Forgot to mention that the mounting bracket was an extra and cost £15. I also bought a tax disk holder/aerial for another £15. It saves having to drill holes in the dash, windows and bodywork!

Looks very neat IMHO!!!

Andy

I've got the Nokia kit mounted along side the handbrake. I've removed the lower coin holder and mounted the handset over that and the wires feed through what is left of the hole.

It leaves just enough room to not intefere with the gear stick.

It's also well worth getting it fitted so that it mutes the stereo (or cuts the power to it).

I've got one of the little magnets for my phone, works superbly and you can put it where you want. Mine's between the dials and the middle right vent. Much less cumbersome and better looking than the big jobbies.
Only cost a tenner too!

Question

Where did you get the magnet type holder from Stef ?
I've been after one for a long while, but can't find one.

Tried every other mounting kit except the £175 manufacturer kit.

You can get the magnet in Carphone Warehouse. At least you could about 3 months ago.

I got mine from an 'A1 McGanns' parts shop. They come in different colours too.
If you haven't got one near you, let me know.

Can you fit a Nokia car kit such that it interfaces to the standard speakers so output is via the speakers and it auto mutes when the phones is answered?

cheers,

Greg

Wink

You can, but you need an extra relay. I wanted that when mine was fitted but the installer was not particularly helpful! Unless I could tell him which wires are for the speakers he couldn't do it. I didn't know and as he finally found an 'invisible' place for the speaker I went for that.

It has a relay to cut the power to the stereo when the phone starts to ring or you hit call and resumes power when you hang up.

I now need to re-wire my radar detector to do the same as when I get a call it goes bonkers.
