Embarassing Knob problem
:-) Sorry could'nt resist !! :-)
I bought a new Momo gear **** at the weekend,
And when I went to fit it, I could'nt figure out how to remove the one that's already there !!
Therê's no screws on the **** and it does seem to twist off,
My car is a STi version 6 jap import

Well I had to have a look !!!!!!! 
I trust sufficient '**** pulling' achieved the desired results

get your partner to hold the base of your stick whilst you work the top with both hands.
works for me (evry nite).
You could also cut the tip off(shorter).

Thanks again for the anti clock wise twist info.
However I want to point out that in my 53 gx sport the **** was well gripped by the gator so yanking would have probably ripped the leather. I sawed though the **** after unscrewing.
about 5mm away from leather. Fixing momo **** was then easy.
