Thumbs up

Nice job. Noticed you were going to have a go flocking your old dash, are you doing this yourself? Let me know how you get on, been thinking about doing this on mine, but don't really know where to get it done.

BrownB -

I know of a company that can hire out the equipment, still looking into the financial side of it. I'll post any results that I find.

HKSubaru -

I did consider upgrading to a newer dash, but the extra re-wiring required put me off. It may well fit physically, but I couldn't be bothered with the extra re-wiring !

Go on with you. You never did that job shown in the photo. You know it was kids broke in to nick the radio and nicked the whole dash instead as Subaru dashes are SUCH high quality.

HI,

Nice pictures of the job, it looks like a bit of fun to get all that out.

i am stuck at the first hurdle... i need to remove my speedo bincle as there are some blown bulbs but i cant get it to budge.

i can get the surround off and i have taken all the screws out, but it will then only move about an inch forward.

any tricks of the trade to getting it out, an i missing something really simple, or am i just simple?

peggy -

You don't mention what model year your car is, on the early models the speedo is cable driven, like mine, and in order to remove the instrument binnacle you "REALLY" have to pull it, to get the speedo cable to disengage from the speedo dial. Drawback to this, as well, is that when it comes time to put everything back together again, getting the cable to "re-insert" into the back of the dial is a right pain ache. I basically took the cover off the lower half of the dashboard, just above where your legs sit when driving, and then squeezed my arm up through to behind the instrument binnacle, and pushed it on from there. I warn you though, if you've not got weedy little arms and hands like mine, this may not be an option !

If its the later electronic speedo model, than I'm not sure why it wouldn't come out. Double check that you've got all the screws out, Subaru have a tendancy to put them in "cunning" places where you may not see them ! Let me know of any more problems.

Excellent info. ..... I've just changed my interior (MY94) for the later spec. (MY99 ?). Everything fits perfectly with hardly any problems during the install, however, the dash plastic doesn't match the plastic on the new door cards.

I was thinking of changing the dash to match (darker colour).....this is just the sort of info. I was looking for.

Good on yer mate !!
