Should be fairly simple to remove, just put a bit of effort into it, it'll come away exposing the thread for the new **** to go on.

Exclamation

Thread sizes can vary. Especially from car to car, not sure about other Subaru equipment though.

Question

Ask if the thread size is the same ? I think the standard one is 12mm, although I may be wrong

If it's a Momo **** then it comes with adaptors that push over the thread and is pushed down on the gear shaft, then the **** is done up by allen key bolts which pinch tight on the shaft, I presume most aftermarket gearknobs have a similar way of fitting, otherwise there would be dedicated gearknobs for each brand / model of car.

The Nitosport ones are threaded but like Toby says, most are universal and have grub screws to hold them in place.

Cool

I've fitted the MOMO gear **** to my '95 WRX - it has loads of adaptors, only problem is the rubber gaiter is now too low, so need to get a leather one to make it look smart.

Cool

I turned an adaptor with an internal M12 thread for my '98 turbo from a piece of alloy. It's held on with 3 M5 stainless cap headed allen screws, and the **** is Araldited to it. Rock solid and attractive too. When I get my digi camera up and running, I'll post a photo if anyone is interested.
