Default rather confused??

I've been looking at getting a scooby so been going through quotes, rather than being a fool going out buying 1 and then being told i cant insure it, anyway after being happy with the quotes i got off sky insurance i decided im going to sell the current car and go for it.

After a phone call today though i am now confused, they asked all the usual about whether they could help blah blah, i told them i tried a quote on a skyline and i got no return. He explained that i had to be 25, bearing in mind im 22 coming 23, i agreed with that no problem. I then returned to asked about the scooby he also said about being 25 the confusing bit is with the skyline they refused to quote but with the subaru i was getting prices.

So how does this work? He said such thing as that quote system doesnt take in to account your no claims, which it asks for? i have full 5 years.

Whether its garaged? Nothing i can do with that but i dont mind paying a bit extra so i have it on the drive.

Just need this clearing up.

Thanks
Rich

What exactly do you need clearing up?

Basically if they are saying I can't insure a impreza til 25 why am I getting prices back? If that's right shouldn't it return like the skyline and say unable to quote?

Its down to the underwriters, some say under 25 = no no, some rub there hands together and add a zero at the end. Depends how they see the risk of younger drivers, young drivers have a higher probability of crashing so premiums get loaded as a result, some underwriters just don't want to take the higher risk.

Expect to get taken over a barrel cost, but hunt around and you will find it.

This isn't a problem with getting the prices, I have got prices but a phone call yesterday basically saying they won't because I'm under 25, with the skyline they say unable 2 quote which is fair enough but they are on a impreza but the same under 25 rule applys so why quote on 1 car and not on the other if there is a under 25 policy on both?

It can be the choice of the broker or the underwriter so either can say no at any time. It can also vary from car to car and then even month on month depending on hstory of claims as a whole in the industry on specific cars.

Well then can't that put the policy holder in to a situation, if I went out and brought the impreza seeing that quote and them turning round and saying no at the end I am stuck with the car that they can't insure?

Its not good that they sent you prices back, part of there system should say, you are not old enough to take out this policy.

Im in the same boat as you pretty much, 23 in feb, 5 years ncb and find it hard getting insured with specialist companies.

Even using comparison sites a few months back i was getting quotes of £1000 and now i try again because my insurance is up for renewal and they are wanting £1600 minimum.

Looks like my renewal quote is the best i can find, which is a surprise.

you'll find all quotes have a limited period of validity and will more than likley come with a clause that says the offer can be pulled at any time.

last few times i've bought a car they have just said its valid from x date and time, if you dont get it let us know and we'll cancel the policy, but by the time i come to finalise getting insurance i know the exact car im getting.

tis all down to the terms and cons

It sounds like you have been using out online quotation facility, these quotations are not guaranteed and we ask all customers to contact us by phone to go through full quotations.

Thanks
