A big thumbs down for Sky Insurance
My insurance is due this week so after receiving my renewal and having a blast on confused.com I thought I would try Sky Insurance and Adrian Flux as between them they cover about half a dozen of the forums I frequent.
So the risk is a 2002 WRX Wagon, aftermarket exhaust, UK Model. 10k miles a year, Me and the Mrs (both in our 30's), speeding ticket for me, 3 old non-fault claims all settled, car stored in a secure compound behind locked gates.
Confused gave me Admiral at £660
Esure renewal came in at £710
Adrian Flux came in at £4300+ and the guy on the phone couldnt apologise for laughing
Sky Insurance refused to quote as 'they are very picky about Imprezas, the underwriters dont like WRX's or STI's'
WTF?? He had already taken my username off here and a Jap forum to apply the discount so he knew where I had got there details from. How can they be picky about Subaru's when they claim to be a Subaru and performance specialist?

Hi,
I've had a look into this one, the issue is not with the car, we insure both WRX's and Sti's in high volumes, in this particular case our underwrtiters refused to quote due to the over all risk.
Thanks for trying us and apologies we couldn't help.

This is contrary to what your guy said. He clearly stated an issue with WRX's and STI's, something I expected to be untrue.
Why lie? Surely he knows that I would publish what he said due to the sheer incredulity of it?
I always find it amusing that those claiming to be specialist struggle to compete with the mainstream companies that they claim to be better than

Hi,
my colleague informed you that we refer each Impreza risk directly to our underwriters, due to the high risk nature of the Impreza and especially the WRX and STI model they go through the risk details with a fine tooth comb. In your case, the quote was refused due to over all risk, this could be for a number of reasons.
Thanks
Ollie

We do not claim to be better than anyone but we do encourage Scoobynet members to give a try when they are shopping for insurance, we've picked up a lot of business from this club, we ARE competitive for the majority but we simply cannot help everyone.
Thanks

Devil's advocate here but it seems flux struggled too so why single out Sky?
If they'd also said £4300 (which is as near to 'we won't cover you' as you'll get without saying it) would you have been as bothered?
5t.

Because Sky have aligned themselves with scoobynet as a Subaru specialist therefore should be able to at least offer a quote. Also because of the comments made by them on the phone. If Sky, Adrian Flux or any other 'specialist' come to me with a quote over £1000 I am going to find it laughable in light of the fact that Admiral, Esure, Elephant, et al can all come in at the £600-800 mark

Sky Insurance were easily the cheapest for me, not cheap but cheapest.. for my STI.
Didnt charge me for my first modification, went out of their way to get modifications added cheaply after the computer had given a silly figure.
Also very helpful when i switched to my M3 last week
Oh and finally Connie has a lovely telephone manner
