19 and need insurance...
I really want a 2 litre turbo subaru impreza as my next car the ony problem is im 19 and have been driving less than a year, will any specialist company insure me? I have tried go compare etc but is all at least 5 grand even with my parents on the policy, third party only, social only and limited miles.
I had a similar problem with my current car (moddified classic mini) but found a specialist company and it was fine.
Thanks

I think you can forget about it for a few years! I'm 27 and bought my Impreza a year ago, 4 years NCB, never had an own fault accident. Only two companies would actually give me a quote, and only one quote was sensible. To be fair the car has a long list of modifications and is running around 300BHP, but even so I was surprised.
Some companies to try are Keith Michaels, A Plan and Sky Insurance, but I doubt any of them will insure a 19 year old.

if you really want an impreza, you need to look at the sport model. it has no turbo but at 19 with less than 1 years driving insurance you will really have a job getting covered for a turbo.but even then you will be pushed to find a decent quote.
what insurance are you hoping to pay or can afford????
my advise buy a cheap run about that is low on tax and insurance and start saving. that way you can build up your driving experience , build up your no claims discount and get the car you want when your 25.
it might seem a long wait but it will be worth it.
unfortunatly a 19 year old with 1 years driving experience driving a turbo impreza is an accident waiting to happen which is why most insurance companies will not touch.
hope things work out and you do get the car of your dreams some day.

Thanks I will bear all of this in mind, I will give those companies a call
Yeh the non-turbo loosk like a more realistic option right now, looking for something under 3k, but idealy would like less, as atm I drive a classic mini with a 1380cc engine and about 100bhp, which is alot in a car that weighs less than 700Kg. I pay £1200 a year fully comp, car valued at £4k (payed £1.6k).
I can't wait to get one, have always wanted one.

£1200 fully comp is a bloody good deal at 19. i was paying more than that 3rd party when i first started out and that was over 15 years ago.
why dont you keep the mini and built up your ncb.
you will be 25 before you know it, have 6 years ncb if no accidents of course. once you hit 25 insurance companies seem to be more favouriable to performance cars. plus the price on the impreza's are dropping at a stupid rate, so if they carry on you could get yourself a real bargain.
i have had some right sheds in my time but i have 11 yrs ncb and only pay £550 fully comp, so patience is the key.

I love my mini and I will hate to see it go, they are just not the most reliable of cars. Origionaly I could not find insurance for it but then I took out classic car insurance for it that was much cheaper and was better in other ways.
This is why I wondered if there where specialist companies for imprezas that may be cheaper than normal companies.

Keep your Mini and build some no claims. Don't bother with a Sport as you will get you **** handed to you on a daily basis by your mates in their hot hatches. Use this time well to save some cash and get the Turbo you really want

My current insurers footman james class things over 15 years as a classic, found a nice 1993 turbo, might give them a call to see if they would be able to change the policy from the mini to that. Probly not or will want alot of money but is worth a shot as it will only take 5 minutes. They were half the price of the second cheapest I found (Adrian Flux) so who knows.

im 19, had a scooby estate thinking it wouldnt be too bad, just a tad under 4k for insurance on a classic 96 turbo with 3 years no claims. so i sold it and bought a scooby sport/wrx replica. 1400 a year to insure tpft. which is now up for sale btw as i passed my bike test last week and want a bike.

Yeh fuel can't be more than the mini, get about 20mpg. I am aware that parts are alot more more expensive, no more £40 tyres or £50 for a decent wheel. Service items like oil filters, plugs etc are alot more expensive aswell.
