Tesco, £144.90 to Add BB
#1
Just phoned Tesco to see how much they would charge, if I decided to add a scoobysport BB. £144.90 extra I was quoted as this is classed as performance enhancing.
Can anyone suggest any ideas to get this price lowered - I tried to sell it on the 25 year guarantee rather than performance.

Suppose you could of tried saying it's stainless steel, bought it so you didn't have to buy a new one every couple of years and it doesn't increase performance?

thats exactly what I did when I asked Churchill about a new b/b - they asked what kind it was and i said stainless and she went off to speak to an underwriter. She came back and said 'if its performance enhancing then we can't cover it.' I put the point about not wanting to have to renew it every 2 years and what was i supposed to do ? She then said ok so its cos it lasts longer ? Off she went again to underwriter and came back and said yeh ok then ?!? no increase...
make of it what you will....it's a bit strange but they're sending out the amendments to my policy when i phone to have them added so i guess we'll wait and see...

Ever thought that the perceived risk on these cars may have gone up with all the coverage on car-jacking, theft etc?
They are looking for ways to cover that risk. If that means charging you more for mods, they'll do it.
(Or that's my theory)

IIRC Tesco charged me around £30pa for performance mods up to 10%.
Yesterday I phoned them to increased this to 11-20% and they charged me about another £50pa (that blows your theory then Chiark )
So that's ~£80 extra for up to 20% more power, plus other bits they haven't charged me extra for (Eg Eibachs).
I'd phone them back and double check.
Cheers

Norwich Union direct increased me by £6 a month DD. Taking my premium up to £70 per month, and that includes me and the wife with full personal RAC cover for each of us.
