Thumbs up Bell Direct Look VERY Good!

I have a MX5 which I have had covered on a Classic Car Policy for 3 years ... it doesn't earn any NCD

Anyway, BELL DIRECT advertise for those with no NCD and their prices are VERY good indeed!!

It is an ADMIRAL Company.

Worth a punt? They are looking for market share - always the best time to buy insurance off a company!

I'm with Bell at the moment and so was my son until renew time after a totally no blame accident. Even though the third party was totally to blame and was prosecuted, Bell increased his premium by around 45%!!! When challenged, they (pathetically) explained that having been involved in an accident - even though not his fault - he was more likely to claim again!
So, the bottom line is, be prepared to look elsewhere if you have a claim.

I've just recently moved to them after my Brother's recomendation.

They insured my RB5 for just over £400. They gave me almost £200 discount for adding my Mum onto the policy (50yr old and works for the NHS).

As for claims, pretty much most "cheap" insurers are like that. Companies such as Direct Line tend to be better come renewal, but you pay through the nose if you are young or drive a fast car

I phoned them today but they would not even quote due to Prodrive springs. They could not explain why this increases the risk!

Yes, he had protected NCB, but this didn't apply as it was aggreed there was no blame on his part - they just put the price up! Needless to say he told them to take a hike. He went with Elephant; cheaper than the original Bell premium - same group of insurers!

If you get an on-line quote and tick the modifications box, you get a big list of mods that you can declare (inc. lowering) I declared exhaust and wheels. Any more than this and you have to phone them.
Prodrive springs hardly slam the thing to the ground, just to where the car should be in the first place! If they were painted black, no one would know the difference!

I'm with Bell Direct, did it on line, ticked various modification options such as wheels, lowering springs, brake upgrade, etc, however when I asked them about furher mods ie .exhaust upgrade+ remap it was an outright refusal!

To quote their letter 'the modifications you have stated we do not actually cover, and are an automatic decline.'

In a phone discussion they reckoned the mods were too specilised, and that I should try a specilaist insurance company, and offered some refund on the time remaining should cancel the policy.

I think that could have been a case of too many ticked boxes?
As I said, I declared wheels and exhaust over the phone after getting an on-line quote from Elephant. They accepted those with no question, but I wonder what the reaction would have been if I'd declared any more eg lowering, "chip" etc.

I paid £625 for my 03 STi with full NCB, driveway parked, exhaust and wheels declared and not a very good postcode. However, I am very old!
JohnD

PS Recently got an on-line quote from Admiral on the same basis for £513

They probably are not any good for FULL NCD people (like myself!)

However, when it comes to my 3rd car - which has NO NCD then they appear fantastic!!

Well not too bad for me, the online quotation system is identical to elephant.co.uk so not sure if it is the same company. I have just bought a WR1 so am looking for quotes at the moment, bell have quoted me £674 with £100 excess and protected NCB. Tesco and Privelege both quoted me around £700 and that was with £200 vol. excess so worth a go I reckon. I am 37 with full NCB and thats with my missus who is 36 on the policy too.
