Are there any 22yr olds with clean licence, 3 yr NCB out there who got decent quotes for a new MY00 UK car? i.e. NOT "It'll be about £3000 with £850 excess mate" which i have heard a few times!
Would cover be much cheaper for a 2-3 yr old machine?

Hi,
I am 23, 5yrs NCB and have just bought an RB5
The lowest quote I got for fully comp. was from Privilege - still a whopping £1516 or £1790 if you want No Claims Protection. This includes a £500 excess.
The only plus point is that you can get 10% off afterwards by doing a BSM "Masterdrive" course which cost £50.
Not too sure what it's going to be like swapping from the RB5 to a Vauxall Corsa
Hope this helps,
Dom
P.S. This is my first post and can I just say thanks to everyone out there for all the info. that appears - I am now the VERY happy owner of an RB5 as a consequence....

I got my 98MY Turbo a couple of years ago when I was 22. Insurance was about £750 from Admiral, it's now about the same thru Privilege. Keep on hunting you will find insurance.
I got my MY00 UK Spec in June, insurance for 23 year old with 2 years no claims (full with Direct Line (Saxo VTR free Insurance)) after 20+ phone calls the best I could get was £1780 with Privilege. Direct Line was about £950 on top of my existing policy, to take me to April so I went with that. Best Quote: £12,880.?? I do not think they wanted my business.
You might want to try Barclays Car Insurance.
They use Privilege to underwrite their policies and are normally cheaper plus their excess is a flat £100.00 regardless of what car you drive. Their number is 0870 600 1414. Good luck...........

i am 21 with 3 years no claims my renewal came up today it is £820 with £500 excess it was only £705 last year, from abrokers called bedford insurance in wimbledon can't remeber the number at the moment
Age 25, MY96 with MY00 spoiler, Blitz dump valve and Blitz induction kit. Three years no claims 6 points (2 x sp30) and one total loss accident 2 years ago to the tune of £5000
Cost - £1000 exactly
Karlos
PS - if you can afford the car you should be able to afford the insurance! :-)

Im 22, 3yrs NCB with a 97 UK Turbo with a SS exhaust and 17" speedlines. I pay around £1500 a year at the moment with Privilege. They will let you increase your excess instead of your premium if you modify/upgrade. Don't be put off by the £4k quotes, you will find cheaper... It's worth the money anyway.
Standard X reg (old shape) Turbo, 23 years, 7 points, no NCB (company insurance), £2500 pa, with £1,500 excess.
Frankly a bit ****ed off everyone got it cheaper, but as I'm not paying who cares?
Might be better to not look mine then!!

£2500 with a £1500 XS Ouch!!!!!!!!!
I am 27 with a MY00, clean license, 6 years NCB and the best quote I could get was with A-Plan for £830 with a £350 XS
mjr, Even though you have been on a company car policy a lot of insurance companies will take that into account and give you an introductory No Claims Bonus. If I was paying that sort of money I would have phoned every company I could before I settled on a price!

I'm 22 with 3 points (Leaving a vehicle in a dangerous position
)and 4 years NCB on a MY00 sport special (ie not turbo)I pay £1050 with direct line, it think the excess is £200. This was the cheapest quote I could get!
What annoyed me was that I could go on the net to Tesco's, Direct Line etc and get quotes off the site, but when I rang up to start the policy the premium magically went up £200!!
By the way does anyone know what Direct Line are like with a S/S backbox and big alloys?

As far as I can tell postcode seems to be the biggest factor in insurance costs.. using an online insurance quote thingy I get quoted £2000 to insure an impreza at my home address in Manchester and about £650 at my old address in Scotland (4yrs NCD, 8 Points). Thats why i'm stuck with a crappy Ford Focus. *sigh* Do you still have to declare your points to the insurance company after having them removed from your licence after 4 years? They always seem to ask for points within the last 5 years.
