Question ATTENTION 21yr old scooby drivers

Who are you using to insure your scoobies? My cousin is about to turn 21 and is looking for his first subaru but apparently tesco are no longer insuring drivers under 23? WTF?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Paul

I was 24 when I bought my Scoob. Norwich Union and Admiral helped me out.

Wasn't cheap though.

I sorted mine out last week, 21 4yrs NCD and elephant/admiral were the cheapest by far. Mixed reviews here for them - they seem helpful enough but i don't think things have gone smoothly for everyone when it comes to claiming with them.

They seem to take mods aswell but you may end up having to cough up proportionally high prices (£100ish extra for exhaust i beleive)

Buying a UK car will save a lot of hassle comapred to trying to insure an import!

just my 2p!

It might be down to the person on the other end of the phone he got.
im currently with tescos and had real hassle putting the scoob down as a temp car.

went something like this

tesco:im sorry sir we cant quote you on that car,
me:but you covered it only last week, al be it only for a couple of days
tesco: its your age i think, we cant cover young drivers on imports anymore
me: im 30
tesco: erm oh no its not that , its that you dont have any NCB
me: apart from the 3 years i built up with you
tesco: ah found it now, weve stopped insuring imports.. i just spoke to the underwriters.
me: very annoyed, complained a little and said i would phone back to move my other policies shortly

Onto the Tesco wesite for a quote and got one straight away, only condidtion was a a tracker..

back onto the phone: this time
tesco: sorry sir someone made a mistake and you will be covered as of tommorow morning, no problems.

afaik the changes in what ages you have to be for certain cars do not apply to existing policy holders

Tesco's may be cheap, they are cr@p at administration, a small downside.

Just be carefull of the renewal price, mine came in at 1400, i requoted online and got the same insurance cover, with less excess, from the same company (tesco) for 1000

cancelled mine and started as a new customer again, much cheaper

its unbelivable that the above could happen

they must rip so many people off, i mean for example £400 per person

but with there £1000 there probably still making a load of money on that

If i buy online can they turn around and not insure me after iv paid?
If they did that I'll take it to the financial ombudsman.
