Thumbs up L+V are NICE !

Just had a phone call from L+V - I wrote to them when I provided proof of no claims bonus (I've just moved from privilege to L+V), as I'd stated 5 years ncb on the phone during the quote and I've actually 9 years.

They've phoned me to say that the insurance is 80 quid a year cheaper and that the discount will be arranged .....

They're going to confirm in writing, so I guess the phone call is just about customer service - Good on 'em I say - so rare these days....

I've just had a quote off them... £1081! And that doesn't even include my SP30 and SP50...! I guess it's the luck of the draw.

As a comparison, Norwich Union Direct quoted £880 with an SP50 (their web site won't allow for more than 1 conviction, so will hopefully get them to allow it as I'm renewing and am not a new customer...)

If the car is standard then LV is definately not the cheapest place............

Elephant and other sites like Screen Trade s/be able to find a much cheaper quote.........

I'm with LV only cos they dont load much on mods, for the wife on a std Scoob were going with an internet site as its £200 cheaper than LV

I was with direct line before (actually privilege) - cost was almost identical....

However, they are expensive / [plumber mode]shhhsss[/plumber mode] on mods, whereas L+V cover all mods (bar displacement increases) for FREE !!!

Well for me, 32 years old on a STi7 (no mods other than a scoobysport backbox - which they didn't care about)...

(Note that these are approx figures as I'm tryping this off the top of my head)

Axa via A-Plan (renewall)- £999
Bell Direct - £1530
Elephant - £1800
Priviledge - Wouldn't quote
Tescos - £1300

L & V - £708

Shows that for some, L&V can be cheaper for no-modified cars.

I was fine from 92 up to 2000, but then had a rush of blood to the head twice in 3 months... Anyway, only another year of being ripped off.

Think its also what the postcode is as well

With LV my quote was over £200 higher just by moving to a slightly different postcode, which is jsust 4/5 miles away from my previous property - except at this one I have a garage...... so for changing PC with a garage I would have to pay £200 more!!!

Seems that some companies doent like the sti versions either......... the car I've been getting quotes on is a bog standard wrx brandnew.... With elephant you can type in a cheap quote and the premium will come down - have you been back to elephant and typed in the £708 premium that you had from LV - wonder if that makes any difference?

I guess that with LV you can modify and wont be penalised (unless you go for the 2.2/2.5 litre conversion!! - which they dont insure)

On a different car, my premium also went up when I moved out my M&D's house, just 4 miles away. There are alot of variables to the insurance equation, that's for sure...

The good things about L&V (for me anyway) is that they are not bothered about speeding points (I have 6 - bloody camera vans), or modifications at all.

Quote from L&V website...

We cannot insure:
Motor cycles, vans, pick ups, minibuses.

Cars which have not been manufactured for the UK market e.g. Japanese imports.

Cars which have performance enhancing modifications.

Just shows its always worth a phone call, as the one I've been quoted on is an import as well as having some mods!

I think that probably just applies to the online quoting system, (which has no provision for specifying mods etc).

Very true. You never know when you might get lucky, and get a "sweet-talkable" bird taking the call...

Nope, not a case of getting lucky, I specifically asked the guy I spoke to when I took out my Insurance with L&V about my upgraded brakes and was told that they didn't affect the premium and anything except increasing the capacity of the engine was fine, just keep any reciepts or get photos of the mods on the car.

... exactly the same as I was told, and they're definitely OK with imports 'cos I've got one insured with them (as have many others).

Quite why LV say what they do on the first page (no imports and/or mods) has been the subject of a number of threads over the last year or so... and we're still none the wiser! I even tried emailing LV for a definitive answer, but their Helpdesk seemed fairly clueless!

Presumably, LV must lose quite a bit of potential new business 'cos people are put off by the content of the first page... but I guess that's they're (LV's) problem. But there is absolutely no doubt that they do insure imports, don't have a problem with most mods, and also include trackday cover.
