Ok to save me rining everyone does anyone know how many companies out there insure heavily modded cars and an import?

I found the sum total of 2! companies last year that did reasonable quotes

A plan - Axa
Barclays - but only on a price match

I tried for hours to get through to Adrain Flux but to no avail - if they are like this trying to get your business I wonder what they are like settling claims?

If your over 30 then Norwich Union will insure just about anything - they insured my lightly modded import no problem.

Norwich were always the dearest underwriter on the market

I got a renewal quote from them a couple of years ago
My renewalo showed an increase from £1400 to £2800, they had effectively exited the market on imports

The only one that seems to do insurance now is Axa - glad I'm with them as they dont touch people who have an uprated turbo on for new business......

So that would have left me stuffed - dont know who LV use to underwrite - themselves.... I guess as they are big enough - came close only loading me with £100 for £15k-£20k of mods but the base quote was still too dear.

Though I have only added a few grand for all the mods - as mods generally dont increase the cars value

if you have not done soe already, phone Rum (Tom Butler) at Schofields. They insure my car, which is a modded jap import. Ok they do require a tracker and I think garage as well, but it's worth ringing anyway. Number is 0113 250 0377

Excellent news!

Played around with the no claims and excesses with Liverpool Victoria

For the same excess and unprotected no claims - which I have with A Plan (I think) - the quote is £894 with LV and £1130 with A plan

Seems LV take a large amount off for increasing the excess's on accidental damage - virtually pound for pound increase - not bad!

Looks like I too will become an LV member! - only thing is the girlfriend cant go on as shes not 30!

They dont load very much for mods at all - about £100 and dont want to know what mods you have only the categories....

So any Engine mods of any kind they just tick the box!

They also said that if the car was nicked they would insure me for all the mods on my car... - I'll just keep a long list...

So much better than being on the phone with muppets who say - whats an 'ECU'?

Try this web page, many of us have had to do this.

http://www.kstroud.fsnet.co.uk/Car_Insurance.htm

I went with Greenlight, Sti7 Euro Import c/w Unichip/Dawes/Decat/Full Magnex Free flow zorst + Eibachs and big rear spoiler = £837 including business use, 6 years no claims and I'm 39 (dont look a day over 59).

I asked A plan if they could beat and they were well aware of LV - the bane of their life...... seems LV is taking a lot of business from them (with their special Axa imports scheme)

You must live in a high risk area

I've never had an accident and have 100000 years no claims

The quote is also with an excess of £500 on accidental damage only - all other excesses are lower

I have'nt finalised anything yet - is off to the States on Monday - and I dont know when I'm coming back...

Steve,

Like Clubby says try Greenlight...they only insure performance cars so know all about mods etc.....

My insurance with the is 760 with loads of mods..... best I found and I tried them all.

I'm sure I tried them and am pretty sure they said they dont insure imports, which mine is

Anyway A plan have just come back to say that Axa will match the quote that LV have given me - so may not change after all!
