Unhappy

As you may have seen from other posts recently, I've just installed a new head unit and speakers into my STi. All was working fine until I went to go to work this morning.

I popped the front on the radio, but no sound is coming from any of the speakers, (I only replaced the fronts - I haven't touched the rears). I did wonder whether it might be the head unit, so I connected up the original head unit again, but this also produces exactly the same result. There is not even any hiss, it's just as though there is no power to the speakers at all.

Has anyone any ideas as to what could have caused this, (when the car hasn't been moved or started etc between it working and not working) and where I should start looking? It's really strange that the rears are not working either, (especially as I haven't touched them). Do the speakers have a fuse?

Thanks,
Iain

First guess would be to look closely at your ISO connectors. One connector is for power, etc, and the other (with 8 wires going to it) is for speakers. Seems that that may have worked loose?

I'd also check continuity across the pairs of cables. You should find around 4 ohms resistance across each pair.

Hi Chiark.

That was my first thought as well. There is only one connector in my STi (which isn't the standard ISO type - I had to get an adapter to connect it to the Pioneer). I've unplugged the connectors and re-attached them just to make sure (and as I said, I've tried the old head unit as well), and it has made no difference. No sound from any of the speakers.

The really strange thing it that it was working when I parked, and wasn't working when I went out again about half an hour later.

Very confusing...

Bizarre.

I'm hoping to have time to look at mine this weekend, so if I find the cause I'll let you know (is yours an STi7 as well?).

Beat me to it. I think it was exactly the same problem in mine. The connections on the speaker were also wet (we've has some pretty horrendous rain in the last couple of days), so I've encased everything in plastic / electrical tape and it's all working again.

Cheers,
Iain
