Why are the standard head units so Crap??

OEM head units sucks
I fitted my scoobs old head unit to my daily hack - a Nissan Sunny (only thing they wont nick by me - the radio that is) and was reminded why I ripped it out of my scoob 2 weeks after buying it!
CD changer skips on right handers and refuses to play CD-R's Volume UP button sticks, I have to press the station preset at least twice before I can get a station. It sounds muffled, it doesnt use standard RCA pre-outs. Oh I could go on. Considering that the Japs make the best head units, why the hell don't they stick them in their cars?
Which brings me to my next question....does anyone have anything made by Phillips thats actually any good and does'nt pack in when its out of warrantee - our TV suddenly has got this green tinge to it (everyone on it looks like they have luekiemia) Again a Phillips.

Philips, IMHO, make damn fine stuff. The DAP600 was a great amp for the money, and their newer stuff is good too.
Bear in mind FHI could have said, "give us the cheapest you can"... What do you expect?
Degauss your TV.
And regarding factory fit, a mate has a Jaguar XK8 and the factory fit stereo is pretty damn good - up there with the level of sound-off competitors a couple of years back. I was shocked. It's *that* good.

I'll put my 2p's worth in too, I've never had any problems with Phillips products, my dad's cd player (Home Audio) is one of the first cd players realeased and it's still going strong
I've got a Phillips Nicam video and its been the best video i've ever had....
So Phillips being crap, I totally disagree, but thats my opinion......
Did they not pioneer the CD Player in conjunction with Sony? / Widescreen TV / Nicam?

Factory fitted gear is generally poor because it's very cheaply made.
Most car manufacturers are happy to chuck something in that looks ok and makes noise although some are slowly coming to their senses.
If Fuji Heavy Industries fitted better quality head units and speakers, their audio bill would be huge and the cost would have to be passed on to the consumer.
When Mr. Subaru sat down one day, he probably said, "let's build a new car. we'll call it Impreza and it will have plenty of bhp and it will win rallies and lots of people will love it and want one". I bet he didn't mention what sort of radio it will have.
Lets face it, the Subaru Impreza will never be known for it's radio no matter how good the radio is.
Have you got a speaker(s) close to the tv?
Slagging off Philips---I dunno.
You'll be bl88dy lucky to find a tv in this world (or any other piece of electrical equipment) that hasn't got Philips made or invented components inside.
