Default have my 1st scooby, now its time to put the ICE in

just picked my 1st scooby up (thanks to morpheus), 03 blobeye sti uk

got told that the standard ice was poor, so looking to sort that out as im a massive dance music man

currently have a direct audio amp to power my resonant engineering dual voice coil 10" sub, so thats that part sorted still

so just need a double din HU, but want 1 that either plays dvd-r's or has a memory car slot in it, and removable front fascia if possible. budget of around £200-250, and some front door speakers for around £70, that ideally require no amp to power them and minimum mods to get them to fit

i no this has probably been asked quite a lot, but some of the posts i seen aint really helped

thanks

Matt

I did something similar in the last year. Pioneer AVH-3300BT about £30 over your budget it is double din and should slot straight in, and it has the front usb and sd card slot, I've got the older model AVH-3200.

You can fit two way components in the front , however I've got Infinity Kappa 52.9i they are 5.25 inch coax with adjustable tweeter and its powered of my Pioneer Head Unit ,
I believe 6.5inch speakers will fit you need spacers you can buy from ebay or the corsa 3 adapters from halfords as the magnet on the factory speaker is tiny and your new door speakers stop the window from winding down.
I brought my kit from Amazon , if you look on youtube you can see demo's of the stereo.

The way the door is set up whatever aftermarket speakers you fit you will need some sort of spacer there is no way around this. The factory impreza's speakers work because the magnet is extra small and any decent speaker wont have a magnet that small, Ive got spacers in mine.

are these the spacers you mean from halfords?

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165626

think im gonna get them infinity kappa speakers as well

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/pro...s_id/8835.html

then maybe go for that pioneer HU mentioned, my only gripe is that i would prefer 1 with a detachable front fascia as so not to attract pikey ba$tards into the idea of breaking in and stealing it, but seems only really jvc do them

If those are the 5.25 option then yes . The fitting isnt perfect we had to drill a hole in the plastic to make it fit. The other option are the spacers from ebay.

I dont worry to much the unit unless my car is parked outside over night which it isnt. You have to remove the centre console and the 4 screws to take out the stereo, have a look at this you tube video I cant believe no one makes this but ive managed to make something similar. Its no replacement for removeable facia but i think its better than nothing.

By the way the infinity sound amazing doing the treble and midrange, together with your sub it's a decent set up. Im running a 500w rms rockford fosgate 10 inch and the sound is just right, not ear bleedingly loud.

yeah well mine is parked outside the house on the small ish front drive we have as it in a cul-de-sac, so ideally would like a removable fascia, seen a jvc 1 i like that has a removable fascia so might go with that for piece of mind

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/jvc-kwavx740.html

would i need to buy a cage for it fit in or should it just slot straight in?

finally got round to fitting my front speakers, bought the autolead spacers and they are a fukin mile off being anywhere near fitting. luckily though the owner that had installed aftermarket speakers last had made some mdf spacers, so managed fit them on them for now

went to fit my 4" rears and they are nowhere near big enough, so im gathering i need some spacers for them to fit. i looked into this and all i could find was people saying they are 4" so thats what i ordered. hoping there are spacers otherwise ill have to send these back

cant believe how crap the rear speakers are, may aswell not have any in haha

Here's my usual speaker recommendation:

Buy speakers only after hearing them in a vehicle or in a demo.
DO NOT buy speakers on someon else's recommendation.

Good as they may be, you may hate them, as sound is very personal.
