what needs updating in a blobeye in terms of ice? the standard sound system is utter rubbish! is it just the head unit and/or the speakers? what's a good upgrade for whatever is making it sound cr@p?

Get yourself round to Halfords etc and do a few comparison tests, preferably "blind" on speakers.

What sounds ace to one man can be pants to another.

The speakers arethe real culprit. Try replacing those first.

The standard ones are just a single driver afaik, size is, again afaik, 5.25"

However, larger ones can be made to fit, either using home-made spacers like I did, or Corsa C spacers from Halfords etc.

I have 17cm Sony 3-way ones front and 6x9 Sony 3-way ones rear, both on home made spacers. The front spacers aren't visible, the rears are covered with proper stuff like the rear shelf.

View my thread in this section...

A good start is changing the head unit and speakers ( get the adaptors so you can run 6.5pm front comps, will make a vast difference )

Depends on your budget if you want an amp or subs etc

i shall have a look at your thread. not going to go the amp route i think...will have a look at an alpine head unit, had one of those before and loved it. sold all my cd's so will get an ipod only one with usb/sd card input. had a look on car audio direct and speakers, jbl i think, were very reasonably priced...not sure if i have the skills to put components in though, as much as i would like them...making new holes in the door cards would scare me!

whats your total budget for your install?

if you just went for speakers and headunit, it will sound 10x better, but allow some extra cash in your budget for sound proofing and the odd bit of wiring and speaker adaptors. if you tell me your budget, il recommend the best value speaker set up.

think it would have to be front speakers first...budget up to £80...£150 - £200 for a head unit and maybe £45 for the rears...i know its not much...if i can get off ebay i will...some ideas as to what makes/models etc would be very helpful. Thanks.
