Felt can be effective but if it gets wet then it smells and rots its then becomes like blotting paper and never dries out and becomes ineffective. It is far better to use Water proof acoustic materials they give a better performance alround and do not need replacing if they get wet.

How much for a MY99 wagon? My intention is to try and dull the sound of a loud exhaust - or prepare for one anyway

Question

Just wondering - Anyone know where can I get some descent soundproof material without having to use mail order? eg a place I might find locally like carpet shops, music shops, Halfords etc? Also, would this be quite effective in reducing back box noise inside a 4 door Impreza if laid just in the boot and under the back seats?
Thanks for any help.

Scoobysnacks,

You can get Dynamat Original and Dynamat Extreme from most audio shops, or go to Halfords they have it over the counter...

Thanks. I read somewhere that Dynamat was not very good at filtering out lower pitch noises. Is this true and if so would it help much with the exhaust sounds? Also, how much would each type you mentioned cost and how different are they?

I got quoted £20 for 4ft square Dynomat ordinary at a specialist car HiFi place in Bristol. Is it really this expensive or is someone taking the mickey?

NoiseKiller have a product that can be applied to he roof it is a liquid that is water based.
Obviously to apply the liquid you would need access to the roof,

The product is waterbased so it cleans from the roller or brush easily and it is Non Toxic

You could also try 'Dedsheete' - Most Auto factors do it - half the price of Dynamat and you get twice as much, pre-cut in 18" X 12" pieces, 12 in a box for around £15. Not quite a pliable as dynamat, but ideal for large flat areas.
Also check out 'Brown Bread' which IMO is better than Dynamat.

The best material for the floors wings and wheel arches is Barrier Mat available from several auto stores or direct from the factory
Size of pads is 13" x 12" and they cost £1.70 each they are self adhesive and do not require any heat to apply. The denseness of barrier mat is the major factor in reducing noise and vibrations
Contact NoiseKiller on 0161 643 8070

For the roof NoiseaKiller liquid works the best and adds very little weight
