Default Soundproofing my boot!!

Hello all,

I am currently (at the moment) in the garage (not with the PC obviously) "soundproofing" my boot and rear arches with some good quality underfelt - "airpillo" stuff.

Done a bit of research online and this seems to do the trick - most of my road noise and exhaust noise comes from the boot so worth doing and, usin the underfelt from the loft I can do it FREE!!! Slightly heavier than car audio soundproofing but the car stuff is way over priced.

Anyone got any tips?

P.S. I already have Brown Bread Insulation in my front and rear doors when I replaced the terrible stereo and speakers on my car.

It's a MY03 WRX Saloon, which has no boot insulation as standard, even the boot lid - it's like a tin can with a bit of carpet and a bit of cardboard!!

Just out of curiosity what speakers did you fit & were they a direct replacement or did you have to 'mod' anything?

Cheers,

Liam

Hi Liam -

Trying to remember off hand. The speakers were Genesis ones and I think they were 13" and we used spacers which are for a Vauxhall Corsa as the doors are very shallow. Fitted standrd sized (10" I think) speaker to the rear as the doors are VERY shallow, the windows get in the way when down and lots of angle-grinding to get anything deeper/wider. Not really worth it unless looking for a serious stereo.

Made a HUGE difference (with a Pioneer MP77 head unit). I imagine its a MIGHTY disappointment the stereo in the WR-1 (if you bought it?!??).

Worthy install and can be done well for less than £500 - worth it if you like to listen to anything in the car other than speech - oh yeah and don't like running the standard 8 watts per schannel Subaru/Kenwood thing at 35 on the volume!!!

Brian.

Thanks Brian,

I must admit the OEM stereo is pants & really lets the car down, I've been reading a few posts on speakers but there does'nt seem to be any obvious replacements that drop straight in!

I guess it's a trip to the 'ICE installers' for me as Im not that great at installing things!!

Thanks for the info though......

Like me Liam - ask them for advice. Most will fit cheaply, if you push them - ALWAYS ask for a discount

Remember they are already making a profit (and a good one) on the audio stuff you buy from them.

Good luck - how is the car BTW?!? Are you going to the JAE in Billing?!?

Brian.
