I need a cheap cd/tuner for the MX5, don't want anything too exotic as I've just had a new hood fitted and don't want some little ****** knifing it to get at my stereo. I've found a suitable unit in Halfords and they will fit it for £35 if I buy it from there. Is this cheap/worth doing?

It would be difficult for them to **** up. The MX5 has a standard ISO connector, so any kid off the street could do it. Even Chris
Seriously, you could do it yourself in 5 mins.
Nick.

Best I do it myself then
Is it really that simple? I'm taking the old units out in a little while, we'll see what lurks behind. It is a Jap import with Jap stereo, does this make a difference to the ISO?

The wiring harness is an Autoleads PC2-10-4 as already said. You also need a "FP-006" which is a pocket to fill the hole.
If my memory serves me right, the two old units were fixed together with a metal frame and then screwed into the dash, hope that's right.
Just do the same with the new unit and pocket.
You may find that there isn't an earth wire in the car's loom so you'll have to ground the earth wire from the PC2-10-4. I could be totally wrong about that, but it's certainly true of some jap cars.
Your'll find the FP-006 on Autoleads site under volvo 850. (It's suitable for most double din holes).
Watch out for current Kenwood mask units. The plastic surround trim is a bit chunky and may prevent a nice flush fitting, you may encounter the same problem with Pioneer too. Just something to be aware of.
