Evening all
My MY00 still has the standard cassette/speakers set up and I badly need to start the upgrade process.
I'm initially after a CD changer (10 disc) and tuner.
Can anyone suggest a half decent unit to go for and a good dealer/fitter in the Notts area?
My mate's got some good Kenwood stuff in his 306GTI6 but I'm sure there's some better stuff out there for the same money?
cheers
Neil

Sounds like you are after an alpine. Why not go for an in dash changer and leave the autochanger for now - use the cash for decent front speakers and a bit of amplification
Even maybe a Denon DCA 800 6x50W

Kenwood, Alpine & Pioneer are the best to go for, for the money (and have the most flashing lights) if you want something below £200. VDO have some good stuff out.
Blaupunkt and Becker are very good but cost. Sony and Philips are Ok, wouldn't recommend though. JVC have some nice equipment out and deserve a look too.
It all depends on what you want (CD, Radio, MD, Cassette, Navigation, DVD/VCD, etc.); how much you want to spend; where you want/can have it fitted (i.e under the seat, in the boot, etc.).
If you post up here how much money you want to spend and what media you listen to, I and probably others will see what we can recommend.

I'd seriously suggest you get an amp and new speakers as well. I recently did this and spent roughly the following:
New speakers : £120
Amp : £140
Cables etc : £ 60
2nd hand cd changer: £120
cheers,
greg

Scoobydoc's Denon is a nice amp - not a particularly recent model, but had rave reviews previously, six channels and very flexible - an opportunity I would grab quick if I were you - I recently bought a new amp, and wished I could have had Martin's. This would be a fabulous amp to run maybe 2 or 4 channels to supply front speakers, leaving 2 channels for a future sub OR rear speakers (don't get both).
I think you have to decide what you want to buy for your £350 - and it that the end of it or a start. Depends on how much you will eventually spend.
If £300-350 is it, then how about:
Infinity 605CS components for front £93
Kenwood 5080R CD headunit £160
Amp wiring kit £20
Speaker cable £20
Sound deadedning £20 (to start with at least)
Scoobydocs amp will be on top of this.
If you are really wanting to upgrade much more in future, spend £300 on a decent headunit for now and leave it at that. Next £200 on good speakers, then £300 on an amp and get 4AWG cable, £200+++ on sound-deadening the whole damn thing. And you've got through well over £1k once you've had it fitted and all the accessories.
Please advise of your planned total budget.
Someone friendly to help you fit it may be worth a travel - you will pay >£100+ for a basic install of headunit, speakers, amp, sound-deadening if quotes I got were anything to go by.
