Default crap sound-help

I have a 2003 wrx sti uk. the problem is the sound system sounds like somthing from the 70s.

my question is

what makes the system sound so crap? is it the speaker? the stereo or both.

I am not after anything expesive-e.g huge subs etc. just want to listen to a decent sound as i drive.

any recomendations?

cheers

Change the speakers and headunit, loads of info in the sticky thread. Headunit isn't great, speakers are awful.

As above, the speakers are the worst ever to be fitted in anything. The std headunit sounded ok with new speakers.
I soon changed the headunit as well though.

Head unit isn't that bad after you change the speakers as said.

The head unit is a Kenwood unit.

I changed the headunit also, but not at the same time as the speakers.

I changed both HU & speakers. The sound improvement was loads better. Well worth the £200 I paid.

I don't know of any, I have not seen any in the threads.

I've done what most others do, make the templates out of mdf then you can fit most makes in no problem !

Just have to watch how far the magnets go into the front doors as the window mechanism will hit it

Change it all; see faq sticky for info.

By the way, I have a forester pocket flap and DIN lead adaptor in the general for sale section...
