Lightbulb Crackling ICE

Hi

I have a scooby 2001 with alpine HU and 6x9's + kenwood amp.

When ignition is on (but engine off) everythung works fine, so its not the earth.

When engine is on, i get a crackling sound through the speakers, I have tried a supresser (halfords jobbie - 3.0 microfarad) on every place possible including every wire of the alternator (assuming that is the thing in the top/middle of the engine with a red grommet on top of the main connector) with no joy.

Any ideas?

Sounds like an earthing problem, but perhaps not with the Stereo itself.. maybe an Engine earth point has deteriated, or something else that only happens with ignition on.

Does it happen with ignition to the 'On' position but without engine started?

Thanks for the reply...

The answer to your question is "no".

I only really notice it when the music goes silent or if the music is low, also the crackles speed up as the revs do, but i have tried the suppressor on the alternator!

hmm.. well must be an engine earthing problem then.

Have you tried re-earthing the alternator? See if that helps?
