Question

Need some advice......

Just got hold of a MY00 4DR - and was thinking of improving the Stereo.

Is it possible to upgrade the front spks (to Infinity 60.2cs) and run them off the Head Unit an Alpine - 4x40watts.

I would rather not install an amp. Are there any problems in doing this, for the head unit or the speakers?

thx

Yes,you can run that setup. If you read through the posts hear from the last 7 days or so,you'll find lots of information on the Infinity installs.

Thanks for your coments....

Saves me installing the amps and subs in this car. Looks like I'll have to advertise and get rid of my Alpine 3544 (2 x 210), 2 x Celestion AD12's, Kenwood KGC-4042A and a Alpine F300s (4x30)

Thanks once again......

Don't do it! If you have amps and subs they must be fitted to your Scooby - probably more than most other cars because of the noise levels. They make a world of difference and the price you would get for selling them... Anyway, the Infinity speakers are a little murine off the head unit - MUCH better amplified - they thrive on lots of power.

Just my opinion of course, and it would be very easy to install if you just change the headunit and speakers - I doubt you even need spacers if you trim the splash guard - Infinity 605CS certainly go straight in with little work.

Fitted Infinity 60.1cs front speakers to my MY00 a few months back.

I've got a Sony 4x40 CD Tuner and the sound is still excellent even without an Amp.

Cheers,

Ian.

Try them with even a modest amp though and it will blow your mind...
Go on, you know you want to...

The AD12s are nice subs... I'd think about using one off the amp to reinforce your bass and using the other channels to amplify your front stage.

Ditch the 4042A, unless you want a variable sub level control. I've got one sitting in a box (impulse purchase )

If you've got the kit, it's worth installing it... You will notice a big difference!

Guys, what can I say.....

Yeah, I know your right that I should install the kit that I have, but I just wanted to keep this car simple.(You know what I mean.....) Its just that I experienced a number of power problems in my last car with just the 3544 (1x650) amp.

Also heard that the Impreza's alternator output was a bit low.......true?

CHIARK
What would you say if I installed the Alpine F300s (2x30 Front Spks) and bridge the other output (1x80) for the Bass. Think that it would be enough for a sub? Not the AD-12 cos the box would have to be too large, if I went down this route, I think that I would have to sell the AD-12's and get another Sub. Maybe the KICKER Solo-Baric S10L7?

Your advice would be appreciated.

Thanks 2u all

I know exactly what you mean about keeping it simple . I started off with good intentions, and then.. drifted

I would use the amp, as it'll always be better than what is crammed into your head unit. I did mean 2 channels for front and then bridge the other two for sub. To be honest, I'd try the AD12 on it in a tight box and see if it was happy running on the 80w (which should be more - around 120-160W at a guess?)

The AD12 may not like the box at all, so you may be wise to change. Haven't heard the solobaric recently, but the old ones were quite nice. Adam M recommends another brand who's name escapes me as they also have small box requirements.

The alternator output seems fine to me when running a SoundStream 604 and RF Punch 200, though lights do dim when idling - but this is when you're using battery and no alternator supply. Upgrading the earth lead helps.

Nick.
